Cardiac Surgery Stepdown Nurses play a vital role in the post-surgical care of cardiac patients undergoing procedures like heart transplants, valve repairs/replacements, and other interventions. They provide specialized acute care in a dynamic, collaborative setting. The unit is renowned for its expertise in left ventricular assist device implantation and post-transplant care. Nurses in this unit demonstrate strong critical thinking abilities and have the autonomy to make informed decisions, actively contributing to patient recovery.Additional Preferred Requirements

The Cardiac stepdown division supports post-surgical cardiac patients, offering specialized acute care in a fast-paced environment. Renowned for its expertise in left ventricular assist device implantation and post-transplant care, nurses in this unit possess strong critical thinking skills, make autonomous decisions, and actively engage in patient recovery from post-op to discharge, showcasing true dedication to their profession.

Preferred QualificationsRole Purpose

Provides direct patient care activities including assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation following nursing care standards.

Responsibilities

Promotes patient and family-centered care within a healing environment.
Educates patients and families on managing their health post-treatment, including home care practices and medication administration.
Participates in initiatives promoting patient safety, quality, and regulatory compliance, engaging in professional development. Develops, implements, and documents individual care plans with set goals in collaboration with the interprofessional team and patients, ensuring effective communication across the care continuum. Utilizes critical nursing skills to assess physical, psychosocial, and emotional needs, respecting patient preferences and barriers to care engagement.
This position mandates alertness and safe work practices as a safety-sensitive role at BJC. Performs additional duties as assigned.
