    Job Summary:

    Registered Nurses deliver care to patients utilizing the nursing process. They collaborate with other professional disciplines to ensure effective patient care delivery and the achievement of desired patient outcomes. Nurses interact effectively with patients and their significant others, maintaining the standard of professional nursing. Registered Nurses provide direct and individualized nursing care based on the application of scientific nursing principles. They must be well-versed in a wide variety of health conditions due to the broad range of medical issues they encounter.

    Registered Nurses are also expected to participate in committee activities, surveys, and improvement initiatives, and to uphold the standards of the Texas Nurse Practice Act.

    Emergency Department Registered Nurses care for patients of all ages and acuity levels. Patients present with a variety of illnesses and injuries at varying and unpredictable paces. Emergency Department census, acuity, and surges demand continuous prioritization of both patients and nursing interventions to maintain safe and efficient care.

    Job Requirements:

    Minimum Education:

    • Graduate of an Accredited School of Nursing (Diploma, AD)

    Minimum Work Experience:

    • No previous experience required

    Required Licenses/Certifications:

    • Registered Nurse
    • ACLS to be completed within 90 days of hire
    • TNCC to be completed within 18 months of hire
    • PALS or ENPC to be completed within 6 months of hire
    • BLS - must be completed before initiating patient contact
    • NIHSS to be completed within 90 days of hire

    Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

    • Self-initiative: actively contribute to ED flow and throughput
    • Sense of urgency: provide safe, fast, effective care regardless of acuity or census
    • Adaptability: adjust constantly to meet acuity, volume intensity, and situational demands in the emergency department
    • Professional appearance and decorum at all times; the ED is the 'front door' to the hospital
    • Ability to handle confidential information responsibly
