Special Information

  • This position is available to work onsite or hybrid at either the Flagstaff Mountain campus or North Valley campus in Phoenix, AZ with or without accommodation.
  • This position is posted as Director of Continuing Education, which is a working title. The NAU system title for this position is Director, Business & Educational Partnerships.


The Director will manage the Office of Continuing Education (CE) and provide coordinated leadership under the Office of Workforce Development for Northern Arizona University's continuing education programs to provide non-credit instruction for business and industry training, professional development courses, workforce development, personal enrichment, youth camps, and public service programming.


Based in educational innovation and driven to engaging new and diverse market advances, the Director will enhance and expand continuing education locally, regionally, and internationally.

The position will work in a highly collaborative environment and lead the development, maintenance, and refinement of continuing education programing at NAU.

The Director will work with multiple college areas/departments, meet enrollment goals, and manage curriculum development in multiple content areas.

Northern Arizona University has historically offered non-credit courses through various departments and is centralizing the management and oversight for our growing program under the direction of this position and the Office of Workforce Development.


The Director collaborates with the Office of Workforce Development team to conduct high level research and produce complex workforce and market analysis reports for the University.

The position also manages processes and workflow for strategies like badging, micro-credentials, and prior learning assessment for the University.

Communication, Sales, Partnerships - 35%

  • Collaborates with Office of Workforce Development team to develop business, industry, educational, and agency partnerships.
  • Furthers partnership conversations and communications and builds relationships, internally and externally.
  • Receives workforce analysis report requests from Deans and Curriculum and Assessment and holds stakeholder meetings with Deans and faculty to determine needs.
  • Identifies and facilitates innovative solutions for expanding the Academic and Workforce Alliances presence in the University community, work across the campus to capture opportunities to enhance the experience of students and instructors and provide leadership and direction for the continuing education efforts.
  • Engages businesses with training solutions and nurtures relationships to expand and develop the sales of custom training solutions.
  • Develops custom training proposals and pricing for external partners and after approval presents proposals to clients/partners.
Program and Project Management - 25%

  • Manages projects, including engaging with stakeholders, organizing tasks, negotiating with stakeholders, setting costs and budgets, determining roles and responsibilities, soliciting and gaining approvals, and ensuring completion of tasks.
  • Oversees planning and implementation for related CE technology like Canvas, Canvas Catalog, and Transact.
  • Assists with coordinating academic badging through the provost's office.
  • Coordinates academic processes along with leadership and ensures compliance with the necessary documentation and accreditation processes.
  • Ensures compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and accrediting bodies.
  • Creates enrollment projections, processes, and logistics.
  • Develops internal Memorandums of Understanding and addendums with the Colleges and gains approvals.
  • Develops budget proformas for partnerships and all CE programs and communicates with partner units regarding budget implementation and faculty hiring.
  • Generates revenue above expenditures to cover all operational costs and to contribute funds to support other key university functions.
Strategic Planning - 15%

  • Drives the creation, development, and execution of a diverse offering of programs.
  • Develops, adapts, and oversees financial processes for Continuing Education within a system of change.
  • Determines strategies for growth, evaluates internal processes, and establishes standards that lead to high quality programing.
  • Creates and oversees a comprehensive marketing plan for CE and implements it in collaboration with others and University Marketing.
  • Establishes, recommends, and implements, as approved, the strategic programmatic plan for future growth.
  • Oversees a CE registration site in collaboration with the Information Technology Services team. Approves of all related course offerings and sets standards for engaging potential instructors.
