Job Summary


Responsible for pre-registration of assigned accounts, ensuring financial clearance is competed in a timely manner, and all precertification documentation is collected for outpatient procedures.

Will also verify insurance for all scheduled and non-scheduled admissions and outpatient procedures by ensuring that accurate, complete, and thorough patient demographics are entered into the computer system, including insurance eligibility and authorizations if applicable.

Completes timely follow-ups for all scheduled patients to ensure a seamless process for patient.

This position is expected to support the department's revenue cycle performance redesign effort as it relates to process redesign and process improvements.


Essential Functions

  • Pre-Registration of all scheduled patients from assigned departments.
  • Work scheduled accounts 57 days out by DOS to ensure patient is financially cleared before coming to hospital
  • Verify insurance is valid/active prior to patients' arrival
  • Verify if procedures require auth and or referral
  • Handling and resolving patient/customer complaints
  • Obtaining and collecting all necessary information from the patient/customer to register the patient for their appointment
  • Manages communication and coordination between the patient/customer and the providers/clinics
  • Collects copayments and deductibles when applicable
  • Communicates financial responsibility to patients
  • Notifying appropriate personnel of any scheduling change due to patient cancellation in a timely fashion.
  • Consults with referring physician's office to ensure written and/or electronic orders exist and obtain them as needed
  • Upon receiving the written or electronic order, verifies completeness.
  • Makes appropriate decision to instruct referring office to obtain authorization for the procedure or visit
  • Defers patients or referring offices when needed due to lack of insurance authorization or out of network status, based on the insurance guidelines provided by Administration
  • Participates in ongoing education activities to develop, maintain, and enhance professional expertise as monitored by supervision.
  • Identify and collect patient copays

Minimum Work Experience

Two years relevant of experience preferred or two years post high school education preferred in Health Care Administration, Medical Assistant, or related field.

High School Diploma required.


Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
Monday thru Friday, no weekends required.
