Research Associate 1 adheres to research protocols while undertaking collaborative research and development tasks. They meticulously observe, analyze data, and derive conclusions. Additionally, they explore, innovate, and refine new methods and technologies to propel project progression. Sustaining a high level of professional competence, they remain well-versed in scientific literature.


PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Independently execute simple experiments.
  • Assist with SOP development.
  • Receive and process laboratory specimens following the standard methods and procedures with superb attention to detail.
  • Track samples with use of LIMS, database queries, and advanced excel techniques; verify that correct specimens are being processed and analyzed.
  • Maintain equipment and instruments in good operating condition, recognize any malfunctions and troubleshoot as needed.
  • Complete routine preventive maintenance and troubleshooting on instruments and equipment.
  • Responsible for maintaining updated understanding and knowledge of the methods employed in the laboratory.
  • Utilize molecular biology techniques in performing laboratory tests. This role will have occasional access to PHI both in paper and electronic form and have occasional access to various technologies to access PHI (paper and electronic) in order to perform the job.
  • Employee must complete training relating to HIPAA/PHI privacy, General Policies and Procedure Compliance training and security training as soon as possible but not later than the first 30 days of hire.
  • Must maintain a current status on Natera training requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS:


  • BS/BA in a biological science or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 1 year of Molecular Biology laboratory experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

- gDNA isolation from biological samples (preferred).

  • Practical knowledge of LIMS/database query tools (preferred).
  • Experience with PCR library preparation for next generation sequencing and sequencing platforms (NextSeq, HiSeq, Ion Torrent.)
  • Sample analysis/QC on the Agilent Bioanalyzer, Nanodrop, Qubit, electrophoresis.
  • Skill conducting quantitativePCR (optional).
  • Experience with laboratory robotics platforms (optional).
  • Must have proven interpersonal, communication, computer, and technical skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills required.
  • Microsoft Excel experience required.
