Client Accounting Services (CAS) Supervisor:



Summary of Duties:


The role of a Client Accounting Services (CAS) Supervisor entails overseeing and managing the daily operations of the CAS Department, supporting clients with bookkeeping, basic accounting, payroll tax, and sales tax functions.


Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, preparing and reviewing payroll tax returns, developing trial balances, completing bank reconciliations, generating financial statements, addressing payroll tax notices, and providing training and professional development to CAS staff while maintaining regular communication with clients to solve bookkeeping errors and technical issues.


Essential Job Functions:


  • Demonstrating proficiency in the Supervisor role as outlined.
  • Assisting Account Administrators with managing complex engagements.
  • Serving as an internal expert in client accounting.
  • Directing staff to ensure timely completion of assignments within budget.
  • Reviewing staff work for accuracy and completeness.
  • Resolving accounting issues.
  • Supporting new staff training.
  • Performing various tasks including bank reconciliations, developing trial balances, reconciling client accounts, preparing payroll tax returns and sales tax returns, creating financial statements, and reviewing financial information.

Supervisory Responsibilities:


  • Enforcing quality control and personnel policies with CAS employees.
  • Managing office workflow to maintain a balanced workload.
  • Assigning and overseeing work completion.
  • Providing training for new employees and software changes.
  • Participating in annual reviews and staff discipline.
  • Staying updated on software changes and recommending system improvements.
  • Preparing client engagements for accounting and payroll services.
  • Managing electronic filing of client returns.

Minimum Requirements:


  • Three years of relevant accounting experience.
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and QuickBooks (Desktop and Online).
  • Preference for QuickBooks Pro Advisor certification and a Bachelor's degree.

The following responsibilities are critical for performance review:

  • Understanding various accounting systems and adapting work accordingly.
  • Gaining insight into clients' general ledger data from different software platforms and activities.
  • Organizing and planning jobs effectively.
  • Completing work accurately and timely.
  • Establishing client confidence and responding to their needs innovatively.
