We represent the City of Greeley and act as legal adviser to the City Council, other city officials, and the city departments, boards, and commissions.

Legal Intern

Salary Range:
$ $30.00 per hour

Job Summary:

The City of Greeley Attorney's Office is seeking legal interns for the fall and spring semesters for the school year and for the summer of 2024 to assist and support attorneys in general municipal law, environmental and water resources law and prosecution matters.

Legal interns will gain experience in a wide variety of municipal law topics. Interns will be responsible for conducting legal research and drafting memoranda, letters and written legal opinions. Interns may have the opportunity to draft and review contracts, policies, ordinances, resolutions and other legal documents.

Legal interns will also have the opportunity to participate in prosecution and code enforcement proceedings from the initial review to negotiations, motions and trial before the Municipal Court or an administrative tribunal.

Interns must qualify under the Student Practice Act to have the opportunity to appear in court and obtain trial experience in the Greeley Municipal Court.

Minimum Qualifications:
Completion of second year of law school. Applicants interested must be able to qualify to practice under the student practice act prior to starting the internship.

During the summer, interns will have the opportunity to work up to 40 hours a week. During the fall and spring semesters, interns will be expected to work between 10-20 hours a week.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

Light to moderate physical effort that includes frequent standing or walking or maintaining arms and hands in the same position for repetitive tasks. Frequently works with light objects and light hand tools.
Vision enough to interpret computer screens and documents to assist the public and complete work assignments; specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Manual dexterity enough to accurately input, retrieve and verify work assignments; employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms.
Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time in courtroom and by means of note-taking or mental capacity, be able to recall information presented in courts so as to be able to assert the City's position.
Communication skills to effectively convey information to the court, public and other City employee both in person and on the phone.
Ability to operate a personal computer.
