As a
Highway Civil Engineer
, you will:
Serve as a Senior Transportation Engineer in a Federal aid Division office of the Federal Highway Administration, providing technical expertise and program direction for development, implementation, management, and process improvement in the area of transportation safety and for the State DOT transportation program.
Provide leadership and serves as a technical specialist in transportation safety, traffic operations, and transportation systems management and operations (TSM&O), including transfer of state-of-the-art technology, for the Federal-aid Division.
Provide professional expertise in matters pertaining to the Strategic Highway Safety Plan (SHSP), Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP), tolling/pricing, managed lanes, reducing border congestion, reducing congestion, and performance management of the transportation system.
Evaluate the development and implementation of the State's highway safety plans and program, assuring compliance with FHWA regulations, policies and procedures, and to achieve FHWA safety goals and objectives.
Assist in the implementation of state-of-the-art technology-based solutions to real world transportation problems; provides strategic leadership, technical assistance, training, and guidance to state, Tribal, and local governments.
Negotiate and resolves sensitive and controversial problems affecting the administration of Federal-aid projects and programs with State, Tribal, and local government representatives.
Theideal candidate
possesses knowledge and experience in the planning, design, and implementation of transportation safety and transportation systems management and operations (TSM&O) in conformance with State and Federal laws and regulations.
This position is perfect for a mid- to senior-level professional who has knowledge and experience in highway project design, construction, operations, and maintenance, including traffic engineering, traffic safety and traffic operations; and who has excellent communication skills, and the ability to represent the agency in a professional manner.
The Division is in downtown Lansing next to the State Capitol complex and an easy walk to an assortment of restaurants and shops.
