    Employees in this classification will be eligible for a 2.5% monthly differential.

    County of Madera is establishing a list of qualified applicants for this position. Applications will be accepted continuously until otherwise noted and the list will be used to fill current vacancies in this classification. Applications will remain on file for one year from the date the list is established.

    Under general supervision, to assist with the planning, organizing, coordination, and administration of an assigned public health nursing program; to provide nursing, educational, and health counseling services in connection with the control and prevention of disease and adverse health conditions; and to do related work as required.

    Examples of Duties

    Plans and conducts a variety of public health clinics; interviews and takes case histories of patients; gives prescribed treatments, records data and makes necessary referrals; provides nursing services in community health programs through home visits, schools, clinics, conferences, and family health counseling; demonstrates and teaches hygiene and nursing care; works with other staff in planning and coordinating health service programs which may involve developing and implementing policies and procedures and participating in budget development and expenditure control; gathers information and maintains records, ensuring proper confidentiality of medical information; works with community organizations and groups in the development of health services and education programs; serves as a resource on health problems and issues; provides guidance to assigned nursing students; provides training in nursing practices and procedures for other staff; develops information and prepares a variety of reports; prepares proposals and information for securing grant funds and justifying expenditures; attends meetings and conferences to maintain current information on public health problems and issues; provides case management services including developing individualized service plans, coordinating services necessary to implement the plans, monitoring and evaluating the efficiency of the plans, and performing advocacy activities for clients; provides case findings including identifying, informing, and referring medically at-risk individuals; participates in outreach activities to inform the community of health related services.

    EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING GUIDELINESEducation and Experience:

    Training:
    Equivalent to a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in nursing or a related field.

    License or Certificate:
    • Possession of a valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of California.
    • Possession of a California State Public Health Nursing Certificate.
    Special Requirements:
    Essential duties require the following physical skills and work environment:

    Ability to sit, stand, walk, kneel, crouch, stoop, squat, twist, and lift 25 lbs.; exposure to cold, heat, noise, outdoors, chemicals, explosive materials, and infectious diseases.
    Application Process

    PLACEMENT ON THE ELIGIBLE LIST:
    The Civil Service Commission may limit the number of qualified applicants eligible to participate in the examination process. If two or more candidates have the same total final score on an examination, they shall be ranked in order of their scores in that portion of the examination which has the greatest weight. The names of two or more eligibles having final ratings which are identical shall be grouped on the eligible list as tie names with equal rank for certification and appointment purposes.

    Candidates who are successful in all phases of the examination process will be placed on an eligible list, in rank order based on a calculation of their total score from the examination process. The eligible list established by this recruitment will be active for a minimum of six (6) months or one (1) year, unless otherwise determined by the Director pursuant to section 6-4 (b) and may be extended for up to an additional year by the Commission.

    PRE-EMPLOYMENT MEDICAL REQUIREMENTS:
    As a condition of employment with the County of Madera, a candidate must submit to a Tuberculosis (TB) screening, and related follow up testing as necessary. Designated classifications* are also subject to a medical examination, which includes a review of medical history. TB screenings and medical exams are administered by the Madera County Public Health Department and/or health care professional designated by the County.

    • 1 sick leave day per month (unlimited accrual);

    • County participates in the Public Employees' Retirement System Health Benefit Program and for certain selected health plans, the County pays 95% of health insurance premium for employee and 50% for either two-party or dependent coverage;
