    Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA)

    VA Medical Center, Houston, TX

    Contract Position

    Overview:

    The CRNA provides a complete range of anesthesia care for a diverse Veteran population including preoperative assessment, intraoperative anesthetic administration, monitoring, and post-anesthesia care, complying with national Joint Commission accreditation standards.

    The CRNA is responsible for delivering quality anesthetic care for a broad range of situations and diverse Veteran population at the medical center while meeting compliance standards. The CRNA collaborates effectively with the entire staff as a vital team member.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    Key responsibilities include pre-anesthetic evaluations, preparing anesthesia plans, delivering anesthesia, post-operative care, emergency airway and resuscitation management, and building strong relationships with staff.

    The CRNA receives clinical oversight from Chief CRNA or delegate and supervising anesthesiologist during their work hours. Specific duties are thoroughly assessed by the Medical Center.


    - Maintain patient confidentiality and safe care environment.


    - Translate professional anesthesia principles into patient care.

    General Areas of Responsibility:


    - Perform pre-anesthetic evaluations, collaborate on anesthesia plans, deliver anesthesia, and provide post-operative care.


    - As part of the 'Code Blue' Team, handle emergency airway and resuscitation, and maintain effective staff relationships.

    Routine Professional Duties:


    - Translate anesthesia principles into patient care.


    - Conduct pre-anesthetic patient assessments, communicate risks to patients, and prepare for anesthesia administration.


    - Administer various types of anesthesia, manage post-anesthetic care, ensure accurate record-keeping.


    - Stay updated on advances in anesthesia, work collaboratively, train students, and adapt anesthesia techniques for optimal patient care.


    - Display expertise in anesthesia care, adapt techniques, and apply new theories for complex situations.


    - Handle emergencies effectively, document patient data accurately.

    Shifts:

    The role offers flexible scheduling to meet medical center needs, operating 24/7. Shifts may vary between 8, 10, or 12 hours based on patient care requirements.

    Qualifications:

    - Minimum 2 years' CRNA experience.

    - Current unrestricted state license with recent work experience.

    - Graduate of an accredited nurse anesthesia program approved by AANA.

    - Full active licensure as a graduate professional nurse.

    - Maintain current, full, active, unrestricted licensure.

    Certification Requirements:

    - Certification by the Council of Certification of Nurse Anesthetists.

    - Maintaining recertification is necessary for employment.

    - Proficiency in spoken and written English.

    - Current ACLS and BLS Certification.
