The Bethlehem Area Public Library has an opening for a full-time Head of Youth Services at our Main library. The position is 37.5 hours per week and includes one night per week and every other Saturday.

II. QUALIFICATIONS

A. Masters degree in Library Science

B. Four or more years of increased responsibility in public library youth

services

C. Supervisory experience

D. Flexibility, time management skills, stellar customer service skills

E. Expertise in planning, directing and presenting numerous creative

programs for ages birth through teens

F. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with

children, teens, staff, and the community

III. JOB SUMMARY

The Head of Youth Services is responsible for planning and directing the daily

work and programs of the Main Youth Services Department. Also, works with

Youth Services staff at branches to mentor and present coordinated service

including the system-wide summer reading program.

IV. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

A. Plans, directs, evaluates, and schedules Youth Services staff to provide

essential services to the youth of the area and their families

B. Provides excellent readers advisory service, reference assistance, outreach

and programming; trains and mentors staff in same

C. Selects materials for the Youth Services department based on the library's

materials selection policy, maintaining a balanced collection that speaks to

diversity, equity, and inclusion. Plans, directs and carries out ongoing

weeding of the collection

D. Monitors expenditures of the budget related to Youth Services

E. Works with Administration to support long range plan through

departmental goals

F. Oversees marketing and promotion of youth events in various media

G. Attends monthly virtual State level Youth Leadership meetings,

disseminating pertinent information to Youth Services staff within the

BAPL system and District

H. Other duties, as assigned


Pay:
$50,795.79 per year
