General Overview of the Position:


The Preventative Maintenance Technician is primarily responsible for performing work specified in the preventative maintenance program as well as developing and ensuring the success of the program.

In addition, the individual will assist the Maintenance Technician(s) to keep machines, mechanical equipment and the structure of the plant in repair.

Duties may involve pipe fitting; boiler making; insulating; welding; machining; carpentry; repairing electrical or mechanical equipment; installing, aligning and balancing new equipment and; repairing buildings and other structures.

Maintenance is to provide support to all areas of the plant as assigned during normal business hours and must be available on an on-call basis 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.


Specific Job Duties:


  • Perform and understand the importance of routine preventative maintenance to ensure that machines continue to run smoothly, operating systems run efficiently, and the physical condition of the plant and its working parts do not deteriorate.
  • Perform job specific tasks that the preventative maintenance program calls for such as work on conveyors, pumps, boilers, gearboxes, bearings, air compressors, motors, buildings, equipment and machinery including rolling stock such as telehandlers, railcar movers and lifts.
  • Develop a clear working knowledge and understanding of the maintenance software system
  • Record maintenance & repair work performed and understand the cost and purpose of each repair
  • Inventory and requisition parts, equipment and other supplies to replenish, maintain and keep an accurate inventory of spare parts and materials in stock or to be ordered.
  • Repair and maintain mechanical equipment during preventative maintenance routine as well as identify separate projects for servicing, repairing, adjusting, and testing machines, devices, moving parts, and equipment that operate primarily on the basis of mechanical (not electronic) principles.
  • Perform tasks of the Maintenance Technician as requested and approved by the Maintenance Supervisor which may include installing seals; rebuilding pumps; replacing gearboxes; tighten chains; inspecting parts; welding; torching; pipe cutting, threading and fitting; installing, removing, rigging and replacing bearings; and changing sensors, filters, belts and other small working parts.
  • Use tools ranging from common hand and power tools, such as hammers, hoists, saws, drills and wrenches, to precision measuring instruments and industry & equipment specific tools.

General Job Duties:


  • Develop and promote teamwork and cooperation with other plant personnel.
  • Maintain effective communications with supervisors and management.
  • Repairing machines, equipment or systems, timely and accurately using the appropriate tools.
  • Troubleshooting to determining causes of operating errors and deciding what to do about it.
  • Monitoring gauges, dials or other indicators to make sure machinery is working properly.
  • Conduct quality control analysis through tests and inspections of products, parts or equipment.
  • Observe plant safety rules and work with plant personnel in promoting a clean and safe work place.
  • Be able to implement new ideas for maintenance of plant equipment.
  • Respond to requests for maintenance or repair in a timely and cooperative manner.
  • Receive and stock spare parts and material.

Required Knowledge & Skills:


  • Mechanical knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair & maintenance.
  • Process knowledge of plant raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs and other techniques for maximizing the effectiveness of the maintenance function.

  • Able to operate the maintenance software (currently Llumin) to perform the following tasks:
  • Enter and pull work order information
  • Set up preventative maintenance routes and schedules accordingly
  • Enter new equipment into the database
  • Identify locations for inventory parts
  • Understanding the operation and control of all plant equipment, machines or systems.
  • Knowledge of and ability to read blue prints, equipment diagrams and O&M manuals.
  • Using hands and arms in handling, installing, positioning, and moving materials.
  • Performing general physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, stooping, and handling materials.
  • Observing, receiving and otherwise obtaining information from all relevant sources.

Education and Experience Requirements:


Pay:
From $20.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
