    Description

    Laitram Machinery, Inc. has an opening for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead engineering projects to develop and manufacture food processing equipment in a culture of continuous learning and improvement. Project types include new product research and development, product and process improvements, and technical support for Manufacturing, Sales, and Service.

    Responsibilities:

    Provide leadership and technical oversight of engineering projects from start to finish. Typical responsibilities include:

  • Manage the project (schedules, reviews, reports, and updates):
  • Technical leadership and mentoring
  • Develop feasibility studies and project specifications
  • New component research, specification, and vendor relations (motors, pumps, actuators, etc.)
  • Oversight of internal test programs as well as field tests and installations of new products
  • Product structure creation for MRP integration
  • Approval of product manuals (assembly, parts, operations)
  • Innovative machine design utilizing 3D modeling
  • Engineering analysis (heat transfer, fluids, FEA, CFD, data analysis)
  • Collaboration and alignment with team members: design, drafting, commercial, manufacturing, service, and management

    • Requirements:

  • B.S., Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university
  • Proven ability to lead and manage a technical team
  • Team builder
  • Objectivity and flexibility in context of new learning
  • 10+ years of engineering and design experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in 3D solid modeling, assembly, and drafting practices
  • Ability to travel, domestic and international

    • Ideal/Desired Qualifications:

  • Broad exposure to various manufacturing methods
  • Exposure to industrial food processing
  • Sheet metal design and manufacturing experience
  • Solidworks modeling and analysis tools
  • Experience with Solidworks PDM or comparable document control system
  • Additional consideration given to candidates with an advanced degree and PE licensure
