Precision mechanics often work with computer-controlled machine tools (CNC machines), but also manually. They plan work processes, set up machine tools, perform tasks (such as turning, milling, drilling, grinding) and evaluate the results.

They are familiar with a variety of measuring tools. They follow standards and technical documents and strive for continuous improvement of work processes, also from an economic perspective.

The main tasks of a precision mechanic include:

Machining (turning, milling, drilling, grinding) and manual processing of workpieces
Assembly of machines and equipment
Creation of hydraulic, pneumatic and electro-pneumatic controls
Programming of CNC machines
Measuring and testing of manufactured parts
Maintenance and upkeep of operating equipment
