    Description

    Position Summary: Operations/Electrical Engineer

    This role involves contributing to engineering projects focused on troubleshooting and enhancing electrical power systems within the renewable energy sector. Responsibilities encompass managing initiatives for operational improvement, root cause analysis, retrofit projects, reliability enhancement projects, and major repairs with support both onsite and offsite. Tasks include enhancing existing protective relaying and substation equipment for improved reliability and supporting renewable assets for O&M.

    Role Activities:

    • Assist in planning and coordinating onsite and offsite activities for retrofitting and repairing protective relaying equipment.
    • Develop relay setting files including programming of Protection and Control Elements, Control Logic, and Communications settings for third-party protective relays.
    • Coordinate and communicate with stakeholders.
    • Review operational system records for issue resolution.
    • Assess studies, protection settings, and test reports for projects.
    • Participate in functional witness testing.
    • Coordinate activities with utility and third-party contractors.
    • Aid in application literature and data sheet management.
    • Support troubleshooting efforts and execution plan development.
    • Manage high-priority RTU programming and SCADA testing initiatives.
    • Lead commissioning, maintenance, and testing operations.
    • Evaluate equipment performance and provide recommendations considering various factors.
    • Lead root cause analysis and remediation plans.
    • Establish and maintain relationships with service providers.
    • Offer expertise on testing procedures and standards.
    • Contribute to engineering specifications.
    • Provide expertise in resolving operational issues.
    • Review testing and maintenance reports, as well as repair and remediation proposals.
    • Ensure work actions align with standards.

    Experience (please note you do not need all experience listed for the role)

    • Possess an Electrical Engineering Degree or equivalent.
    • Knowledgeable in power equipment O&M/testing.
    • Experience in power generation operations.
    • Familiarity with power systems studies in ASPEN, CAPE, or similar.
    • Proficient in substation communication protocols such as IEC 61850, DNP, Modbus.
    • Expertise in engineering documents.
    • Understanding of high voltage systems.
    • Proficiency in relevant software.
    • Familiarity with relay testing systems like Omnicron or Doble.
    • Understanding of protocols SEL, SCADA, ModBus.
    • Knowledge of standards and regulations.
    • Strong organizational and multitasking skills, excellent communication and problem-solving abilities, ability to work independently and in teams.
