Position Summary:

The Quality Control Inspector is responsible for inspecting pipe after Bevel End Facing, Hydro Testing, and Final Ultrasonic Testing to determine if pipe has met all the requirements of the Customer or code specifications and that the pipe is ready for shipment.

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Inspects imperfections in longitudinal welds both inside and outside seam.
• Inspects imperfections in the pipe body and weld visually.
• Uses portable UT to examine and proveup weld defect indications.
• Measures and inspects the bevel, face, and squareness of both ends for compliance with specifications.
• Determines if pipe is acceptable or rejected (unsuitable for the current specification) due to imperfections which exceed those specified by Customer or code.
• Measures OD of pipe, wall thickness, straightness, and weld flash height with micrometer or electronic ultrasonic thickness gauge.
• Examines weld line for chatter.
• Examines welded joint for offplate or offseam conditions.
• Inspects and maintains a record of all activities on the QC Final Non-Conformance Report QCF00
• Reports to Supervisors any continuing imperfections so immediate correction may be taken.
• Reports cracks, splits, pinholes and hydro bursts to Supervisors to ensure the defect is disposed of in a proper manner within the established specifications and Standard Operating Procedures.
• Marks pipe for cutoff or repair.
• Routes pipes to proper rejection pockets.
• Confers with thirdparty inspectors on matters relating to quality at the final table.
• Records all pipe passing the station and disposition of each pipe with all indications, imperfections, and rejected defects marked as to type, length, location and depth.
• Submits reports to Supervisor at the end of each shift.
• Is responsible for maintaining housekeeping in the Final Inspection area. This responsibility is shared with all inspectors in the same area.

Required Skills/Abilities:

• Must pass QC Inspector quiz.
• Must pass UT Examination for Level 1 or Level 2 SNT-TC1A following appropriate training and work experience.
• Read and write English.
• Comprehend Standard Operating Procedures.

Education and Experience:

• High School Diploma or GED preferred.
• At least 2 years of experience in QC.
