Responsibilities:
Will work closely with the DS Front Office and all DS Offices to draft, edit and publish a range of written communications - primarily 1-2 page articles on tactical and strategic issues for the DS and the Agency workforce.
Shall routinely research and write articles or other multimedia products focused on DS officers and initiatives, including pursuing leads identified by Chief or Deputy Chief/DS Communications, attending, and reporting on events; developing questions and conducting interviews of DS and Agency officers; organizing photo shoots of projects, events, and individuals; and coordinating across 12 DS Offices and other stakeholders across the Agency.
DS Communications publishes at least one article in each of the following four categories each week:
training, diversity and inclusion, DS officers and initiatives and awards and recognition.
Shall edit and write What's News articles from all DS Offices to ensure clarity and accuracy of message; volume of What's News articles requiring editing is consistently high, ranging from 2 to 10 articles per week.
This role works closely with DS Communications graphic designers to identify appropriate imagery to accompany articles; organize photo shoots as needed and review photos; review and compile photo essays as needed in support of weekly DS Communications production on DS initiatives, programs, and officers; and produce other communications in various multimedia formats.
This role will assist in planing and execuing of DS Front Office events, including conferences and all hands, by reviewing presentations and talking points, working closely with presents on stage presence, and taking on other duties - such as working with AV staff, sound checking, dry running, greetings guests, setting up and tearing down event spaces, etc.
- develop and publish originally researched and drafted articles, messages, and multimedia content on DS and Agency-wide programs and initiatives.
- work with stakeholders to edit and finalize What's News articles drafted by DS offices.
- Edit and develop ad hoc products assigned by Chief or Deputy Chief/DS Communications Team.
- Assist with all eventrelated communications and taskings to plan and fully execute Directoratelevel events.
- Work under the daytoday direction of the Chief of DS Communications and the DS Chief of Staff.
- Attend regular meetings to assess progress and products to review revisions and altered directions. Contractors shall individually and collectively attend a variety of meetings some regularly scheduled and some iteratively held as directed by those above to whom the contractors are accountable.
Qualifications:
- Degree in Communications, English, Journalism, Media Relations, or related field
- Minimum of 2 years of professional experience in communication
- Experience writing press releasees, reports, articles, etc
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including strong grammar, writing and editing skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and superb attention to detail.
- Ability to organize, write and edit documents to appeal to specific and varied audiences.
- Strong critical thinking skills and ability to think strategically.
- Highly creative and innovative in identifying modes of communications and means of crating visually engaging, impactful communications content
