Position Information:


Are you interested in a career that allows you to work directly with Arlington County residents? Would you like to make a difference in the community through helping residents achieve and maintain self-sufficiency? The Department of Human Services (DHS)'s Public Assistance Bureau (PAB) is seeking a
Bilingual Human Services Aide V (English/Spanish) to work in its Economic Independence Division (EID).

The position will perform an array of technical and administrative duties in support of the bureau.

Additionally, this position may support the Fraud Worker by processing cash payments, posting payments to ledgers and all programs of record, sending out receipts, reminders of payments and payment envelopes to customers and running various payment/non-payment reports.


PAB determines both initial and ongoing eligibility of individuals and families for a variety of complex Federal, state and/or local financial assistance programs including: Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF), General Relief, Refugee Assistance, Auxiliary Grants, Medical Assistance (Medicaid), Energy Assistance, Foster Care IV-E, Child Care Subsidy, Energy Assistance, and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).


Specific duties include:

  • Preparing documents and intake materials for financial, medical and food assistance programs;
  • Scanning client documents for electronic filing process;
  • Utilizing local, state, and federal automated records systems to perform client queries and data entry;
  • Responding to client and employee inquiries accurately and efficiently;
  • Ordering, stocking and tracking office supplies;
  • Communicating program data to stakeholders using Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook;
  • Other administrative duties to include:
  • Typing, editing, reviewing documents and forms;
  • Processing closure of case files;
  • Managing and distributing mail and electronic benefits for the division;
  • Preparing correspondence and assembling materials for mailings; and
  • Coverage of the front desk

Selection Criteria:


Minimum:


  • High school diploma or equivalent; plus
  • Some experience in a support function which included responsibility for customer service and direct human services in direct public contact environment.

Substitution**:

College coursework in a human services related field may be substituted for up to one year of experience on a year for year basis.


  • Experience providing information regarding human services program;
  • Experience entering data as part of an interview process; and/or
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel.

Special Requirements:


The applicant must possess, or obtain by the time of appointment, a valid motor vehicle operator's license from the applicant's place of residence or the applicant must have the ability or willingness to use alternative methods of transportation to perform assigned duties and responsibilities at locations other than the primary worksite.

If the applicant possesses or acquires a license, the applicant must authorize Arlington County to obtain, or the applicant must provide, copy of the applicant's official state/district driving record.

Any offer of employment may be contingent upon a favorable review of the applicant's driving record.

Completion of a State of Virginia Central Registry Check.


Additional Information:

The pay ranges listed above are effective June 30, 2024.


Work Hours: 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Some telework may be available depending on workload and supervisor approval.

The official title of this position is Human Services Aide V.
