GENERAL SUMMARY:


Responsible for Cardiopulmonary Services, administers respiratory therapy care and life support to patients with deficiencies and abnormalities of cardiopulmonary system.

Performs diagnostic tests of cardiovascular and pulmonary system to aid physicians in diagnosis and treatment of heart and lung disorders.

Maintains performance improvement activities within the department and participates in CQI activities. Prepares annual budget. Adheres to the principals, philosophy and mission of Cobre Valley Regional Medical Center in all aspects of job performance.


TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Knowledge of medications, treatments and their correct administration, based on age of the patient and his/her clinical condition.
  • Ability to assess patient, his/her needs and ability to tolerate treatment and reassessment for response to treatment.
  • Ability to read prescription, measure and draw arterial blood gases, review patient information and determine requirements for treatment, and operate devices and equipment to ensure specified parameters.
  • Formulates a teaching plan based on identified learning needs of the patient and evaluates effectiveness of learning; patient's family is included in teaching as appropriate.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of respiratory therapy and cardiology studies, treats patient appropriately based upon professional standards.
  • Participates in patient care as necessary by working all shifts, as needed.
  • Exhibits knowledge/ understanding of Safety, Infection Control and Employee Health policies and procedures.
  • Adheres to the principals, philosophy and mission of Cobre Valley Regional Medical Center in all aspects of job performance.
  • Maintains a clean and safe environment for patients, visitors and staff.
  • Actively participates in effective guest relations through courteous communications with all hospital contacts; presents a positive image of the institution in all contacts both inside and outside the hospital.
  • Has working knowledge of department's budget and cost of supplies.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Supervises the Respiratory Therapist and Respiratory Therapy Technician. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.

Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.


QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Must be a registered by the National Board of Respiratory Care.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Possess at least two years as a Respiratory Therapist experience and a minimum of one year of managerial experience.
  • BLS/CPR, ACLS, NRP and PALS certification required.
  • Must be able to interact effectively with coworkers, patients/family, physicians and other hospital personnel.
  • Must be able to perform effectively under physical and mental stress.
  • Verbal and written communication is necessary to present information essential to managerial responsibilities.
