JOB DESCRIPTION:

The school social worker will work collaboratively with all mental health support personnel, administrators, teachers and families to support the needs of students at TMS.

This may include personal, emotional, and social problems that interfere with their adjustment to school and their capacity toenjoy the fullest benefits of their education and to serve as the liaison between school and home.


EDUCATION, TRAINING, and EXPERIENCE:

Hold or be currently eligible for a valid Rhode Island School Social Worker certificate Ability to know and utilize technology in record keeping and communication.

Demonstrated ability to perform the responsibilities below as evidenced by coursework, social work experience, school-level involvement, professional activities, and the interview processSuccessful completion of the Science of Reading Training


RESPONSIBILITIES:

Consults and cooperates with school psychologists, guidance counselors, nurses, principals, and classroom teachers in assessing the mental and psychological stressors of the individual studenthaving school difficulty and participates in the student's remedial plan;Gathers information from the students home visits or interviews that will be useful in determining how best to meet the needs of the student and his/her family;Presents a positive image of the school to families, and conveys to the theschool's genuine concern with the education, growth, and development of each child; Works closely with health, social service, and police agencies to coordinate all services; Keeps complete, up-to-date, and accurate records as required by law, policy, and administrative regulation; Performs casework service with individual studentsto: Enhance those personal, social, or emotional skills related to theireducational and socialprogress;Conduct developmental assessments and long/short term individual or group therapy.

Conduct behavioral and functional assessments. Assists and participates in the designing of positive behavioral support plan to meet theneeds of the individual.

Perform casework service with families as an integral part of the task of helping students, to increase the parents' understanding, and participation in resolving their child's concerns, and their knowledge and use of appropriate resources available; Consults and collaborates with other schoolpersonnel in gathering and giving information on a case, and in establishing and planning for respective roles in themodification of the student's behavior; Serves as liaison between home and school when considerable follow-upis necessary, as in thosecases with children involvedwith outside agencies; Assists students directly toward adjustmentto school; Keeps sufficient records of cases for use byschool staff members and outside agencieswhen appropriate; Performs suchother duties as assigned by the Principal or Director of Student Services.


TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Ten-month position; appropriate salary/benefits in accordance with the Teachers Contract. Evaluation in accordance with the process as established by the Rhode Island Department of Education for certified educators.
