This position is located at the J.J. Pickle Research Campus in North Austin.

Purpose


The Bureau of Economic Geology (Bureau) is a research unit within the Jackson School of Geosciences and serves Texas as the State Geological Survey.

The Bureau operates a

Resource Center

to provide geoscience information including maps, reports, guidebooks, and data to the public.

The Resource Center Administrative Associate will run the daily sales and customer service activities for the

Bureau Store

  • In addition, the Resource Center Administrative Associate will assist the Bureau research staff, commercial customers, students, faculty, and the public with inquiries about geophysical well logs and geological materials from the
Geophysical Log facility

within the Bureau's Resource Center.


Responsibilities:


  • Administrative functions such as preparation of reports, correspondence, making copies and ordering supplies. Using Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, and maintain work areas. Greet Resource Center visitors and assist the front desk where needed.
  • Refer technical questions to the Information Geologist or Resource Center Specialist. Assist the Information Geologist with various publicationrelated tasks and occasional outreach events.
  • Occasional travel.
Required Qualifications

High School diploma or GED plus 5 years experience. Bachelor's Degree plus 1 year experience. Desire to learn new skills. Proficiency with standard office equipment and software, including Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel. Demonstrated ability to work quickly and accurately with attention to detail. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Comfortable working with the public. Ability to work alone, or in a small group, without much direct supervision

  • Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate._
Preferred Qualifications

Two years of experience in customer service working directly with the public. Retail experience. Previous or current employment at The University of Texas at Austin and/or experience working in an academic setting. Knowledge of some geology and Texas geography. Accounting background or coursework.

Salary Range

$45,000 + depending on qualifications
