JOB SUMMARY
Plays an active role in Federal Affairs to help define and understand the ideal political and policy environment to enable achievement of strategic business objectives.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Proactively monitors, tracks, and analyses federal legislative and agency developments of interest to the company.
Provides timely summaries and analysis of federal legislative initiatives, including committee hearings, draft legislation, and congressional reports.
Develops efficient mechanisms and processes for tracking and disseminating information to internal stakeholders on federal legislation, agency rulemakings, and reports prepared by other stakeholders/industry groups.
Participates in external coalition discussions around comment development, as directed.
Prepares briefing materials, including policy papers, talking points, one-page handouts, and presentations to support external advocacy.
Represents the company in external coalitions and working groups as directed.
Coordinates with Federal Affairs and Regulatory team to provide support for external engagements with FERC staff and Commissioners. Participates in external engagements with FERC on an as-needed basis.
Assignment of other project support functions and special projects as needed.
Represents the company at external functions as directed.
Develops tracking mechanisms/ performance metrics in support of Federal Affairs coordination and continuous improvement goals.
REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor's degree in social science, political science or engineering or other relevant discipline.
Minimum of two (2) years of experience with federal legislative and/or regulatory policy analysis.
Strong written and verbal communication skills with proven abilities to cohesively defend or justify recommendations with all levels of organization, internally and externally.
Position is based in ITC Washington, DC office.
Strong quantitative skills, and the ability to understand and analyze complex business issues.
Ability to think strategically and creatively while demonstrating strong analytical skills.
Superior interpersonal skills to build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Ability to successfully handle multiple projects simultaneously.
Experience researching, analyzing and debriefing complex issues.
Strong teamwork skills.
Willingness to learn and analyze new and/or complex issues.
Ability to complete projects efficiently and independently with mínimal supervision.
Excellent work ethic, resourcefulness and strong self-direction.
Ability to work independently within a team-oriented environment.
Ability to establish and maintain confidential and effective working relationships with supervisor, coworkers, and management.
Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Ability to travel overnight on a regular basis.
