    Title: School Sign Language Interpreter

    Location: Franklin, Tennessee

    Description:

    Our school district in Franklin is seeking a skilled and dedicated Sign Language Interpreter to join our team. The ideal candidate will have expertise in American Sign Language (ASL) and a passion for facilitating effective communication between deaf or hard-of-hearing students and their peers, teachers, and staff.

    Responsibilities:

    • Provide sign language interpretation and transliteration services for students who are deaf or hard of hearing in educational settings
    • Facilitate communication between students and teachers, ensuring that classroom content is accessible and comprehensible
    • Collaborate with teachers, special education staff, and other educational professionals to support the learning needs of students with hearing impairments
    • Adapt sign language interpretation to accommodate various grade levels and subject areas
    • Assist with the development and implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and accommodation plans
    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student progress and services provided
    • Foster a positive and inclusive environment that promotes the social and emotional development of students with hearing impairments

    Qualifications:

    • Valid Tennessee State Sign Language Interpreter certification
    • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
    • Experience working as a Sign Language Interpreter in an educational setting, preferably in schools
    • Knowledge of deaf culture and the unique needs of deaf and hard-of-hearing students
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
    • Empathy, patience, and a commitment to supporting students with hearing impairments
    • Ability to adapt sign language interpretation to the academic and social contexts of the school environment
