Using considerable discretion and independent judgment, under direction of the Deputy Superintendent and in collaboration with the Teaching and Learning Team, the individual in this position is responsible for oversight of all aspects of teaching and learning in assigned District 300 Schools, including staffing, budgeting, student achievement, student discipline, operations, and principal supervision.

The individual in this position will spend at least 50% of the work week in school buildings.


Performance Responsibilities:


  • Explicitly models, through communication and actions, the core values and beliefs in the district's goals and mission.
  • Trains and assists principals in the development of site planning and accountability to meet identified school targets.
  • Collaborates with principals and other District departments to develop and implement ongoing program evaluation and improvement of instructional programs with an emphasis on increasing student achievement.
  • Collaborates with principals and other District departments on the professional development needs of each school and administrator.
  • Supports school administrators to ensure that school based evaluations are timely and appropriate
  • Collaborates and problem solves with LEAD, DESA, and DESPA leadership regarding applicable grievances, discipline and schoolbased issues.
  • Provides leadership and direction to schools; supervises and evaluates school Principals.
  • Provides support, collaborates and provides leadership in working with the federal, state and local grants department
  • Provides support, collaborates and provides leadership in working with various departments to assure federal, state and local compliance
  • Monitors the development and implementation of school improvement plans. Supports schools with a focus on data and instructional improvements.
  • Assists school leadership with developing their annual budget. Ensures compliance with annual budget for the schools; analyzes and reviews budgetary and financial data; monitors and authorizes expenditures in accordance with established guidelines.
  • Works with principals in establishing appropriate school staffing levels.
  • Collaborates with District staff and departments to resolve student issues related to transfers, discipline, complaints, appeals, and investigations. Handles conflicts/problems which cannot be resolved at the school level.
  • Coordinates with the Chief Technology Officer on school space utilization plans.
  • Serves as liaison between schools and other District departments/divisions. In this capacity the Assistant Superintendent ensures that the needs of school are met consistently and in a timely manner to ensure positive student outcomes and staff morale.
  • Works with principals to ensure the efficient and effective operation of schools.
  • Leads the process for the selection of school principals in assigned buildings.
  • Serves as a member of the Superintendent's Cabinet
  • Provides leadership to schools in instructional strategies.
  • Attends School Board meetings.
  • Coordinates collaborative decisionmaking among staff, parents and community groups. Ensures school level compliance with Parent Organizations.
  • Supports the implementation of technology programs which enhance teaching and learning.
  • Facilitate monthly and/or quarterly meetings with the following groups:
  • Building Principals
  • Building Assistant Principals
  • Cochairs Collaborative Council along with LEAD leadership.
  • Attends or chairs various meetings; represents the District in collaborative partnerships, task forces, committees, businesses, and human service agencies.
  • Facilitate and/or participate on district committees.
  • Collaborates with the Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources to develop and monitor staffing allocations, class schedules and class size limits in accordance with the LEAD 300 agreement and state guidelines.
  • Ensures and monitors alignment of school programs and activities to ensure standardization across school campuses.
  • Oversight of, and responsibility for, the following:
  • Scheduling handbook
  • Monitoring fidelity of instruction
  • Parentteacher conferences, including online tools for scheduling conferences
  • Student handbooks
  • Flawless opening and flawless closing procedures.
  • Assumes additional duties as delegated by the Deputy Superintendent and/or assigned by the Superintendent.

Education:


  • Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with General Administrator and/or Principal Endorsement

Knowledge:


  • Understanding of continuous improvement processes
  • Knowledge of all applicable Federal and State education requirements
  • Knowledge of School Code requirements
  • Experience in the development and implementation of social skills lessons and
