Position Summary:

We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Laboratory Supervisor.


Responsibilities:


  • Manage daytoday operations of the research laboratory, including pre
- and post-doctoral fellows, graduate students, technicians and volunteers; will include budgeting and spending oversight, cost analyses of research projects, insuring operation of essential equipment, and maintenance of adequate supplies.

  • Participates in special projects and performs other related duties as required
  • Follows current literature and web postings regarding new trends in areas of importance to lab operations
  • Attend national and local meetings and conferences to remain current on lab management strategies and tools.
  • Will establish and enforce standard operating procedures for receiving materials into the lab and sending materials to other labs, including the material transfer agreement process when appropriate.
  • Will train and monitor laboratory members. Ensure compliance with applicable safety regulations and laboratory procedures. Make sure staff wear lab coats and have no food in the lab.
  • Manage lab safety programs to ensure compliance with all applicable regulations
  • Help principal investigator in assigning responsibilities for individual instruments and for laboratory maintenance.
  • Serve as lab emergency contact, and enforce compliance with safety and lab procedures among all lab personnel.
  • Communicate with central services to maintain supplies of autoclaved materials and other reagents.
  • Negotiate discounts for key reagents and equipment with company representatives.
  • Assist in monitoring expenditures and tracking budgets for several accounts used by the lab.
  • Assist in the planning of preand post doc fellows and PI experiments as well as in the interpretation of results. Ability to instruct and provide guidance to junior level lab staff in analysis and interpretation of the results of experiments.
  • Performs routine and advanced technical tasks, and assists in the general maintenance of the lab, such as prepare stock reagents and maintain inventory of the lab's supplies. Ensure prompt ordering of equipment and supplies for the lab using a computer based ordering system and/or by communicating with the central ordering department. Ensure prompt unpacking and organization of delivered equipment and supplies. Coordinates the repair and preventative maintenance of lab equipment.

  • Train students and technicians in a variety of laboratory procedures.
  • Oversee management of the laboratory supplies, licensing, credentialing, and equipment.
  • Will lead effort, with members of the lab, on preparation of biosafety standard operating procedures, organizing lab operations and overseeing standardization of lab procedures. Will have authority over all lab personnel on matters of regulatory compliance.
  • Act as liaison between lab and NYU departments on issues such as budget management, fixed asset inventory, regulatory compliance (DLAR, IACUC, IRB Environmental), and purchasing.
  • Work with the financial analyst to define the lab budget, identify accounts for ordering and work with lab staff to keep the lab spending with budgetary constraints.
  • Supervised daily operations of in vitro studies to ensure a seamless laboratory process: procurement and organization of supplies, biological specimen archives, equipment maintenance, safety inspections.
  • Point person ensuring adherence to all lab safety SOPs and authored molecular biology protocols.
