Provide technical and policy support for the National Technical Nuclear Forensics (NTNF) Program.

  • Provide support in the area of postdetonation nuclear forensics, but may also include any of the following areas: the national nuclear stockpile; nuclear weapons operations; nuclear weapons detection; nuclear accident/incident response; national response framework (response to a nuclear—radiological incident); emergency response and consequence management; nationallevel exercises; nuclear enterprise and infrastructure transformation; nuclear weapons effects; nuclear weapon survivability; survivability to nuclear weapon effects; stockpile sustainment, including life extension activities; nuclear weapon program requirements; HEMP/EMP defense; radiation detection and dispersal defense initiatives; and the national and DoD policies which underlay the above.
  • Actively engage issues, actions, and initiatives, drawing from academic preparation and experience, concerning, or relating to the development, deployment, transportation, safety, security, storage, and training for the stewardship of nuclear weapons and the broad range of activities comprising and associated with countering nuclear threats.
  • Interact with interagency NTNF partners, in particular DOE/NNSA, the FBI and the Intelligence Community.
  • Work with other government agencies, and other offices within DoD to facilitate integration of DoD's capabilities into a coherent US government capability that spans all elements of the NTNF attribution communities.
  • Work with DoD, national laboratories, and industry to develop research and development projects that support the transition of new technologies into operational DoD capabilities.
  • Provide support to DoD Nuclear Threat Reduction activities under the Mutual Defense Agreement and may contribute to or prepare joint NNSA/DOD reports for delivery to the President and/or to the Congress.
  • Review documents, contribute to studies or task forces, prepare papers and staff summaries and briefings, attend/participate in meetings within/across the Department, across the interagency and other branches of government and/or with academia and industry.
  • Prepare and disseminate agenda, meeting materials and meeting summaries, reserve meeting space, ensure attendee access, and other administrative aspects.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements/Skills Required:


  • Active Secret clearance with the ability to obtain a TS with SCI eligibility; U.S. citizen
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college in a related science or engineering field, such as nuclear engineering, physics, chemistry, metallurgy, or a closely related discipline.
  • 5 Years experience in either nuclear weapons systems, nuclear cooperation programs, nuclear forensics, and/or knowledge of DOD capabilities to Combat Weapons of Mass Destruction (C-WMD).
  • Excellent written and oral communication.
  • Excellent organizational and task management skills.
  • Ability to take initiative on projects and taskings.
  • Experience in working with teams and working groups from multiple agencies.

DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:


  • Masters' degree from an accredited university or college in a related science or engineering field, such as nuclear engineering, physics, chemistry, metallurgy, or a closely related discipline.
  • Ability to confidently and credibly execute presentations at high levels, to coordinate actions and initiatives across the OSD, the Joint Staff, Services, and other Federal Departments and Agencies, and to produce "executivestyle" summaries.
  • Experience in the area of technical nuclear forensics programs to function as a policy expert with working knowledge of the various government programs for technical nuclear forensics and attribution.
  • Familiarity with federal and/or DoD budgeting and acquisition process, including management and tracking of funds, strategic planning, requirements determinations, and project milestone development and tracking.
  • Ability to communicate technical, operational, and policylevel concepts both verbally and in writing in order to coordinate program initiatives with stakeholders, colleagues and leaders.
