Employment Information:
A Full-Time 10-month Bargaining Unit position.


Qualifications:


  • High School diploma with an extensive experience working with deaf and hard of hearing students.
  • Training in Positive Behavior Support Systems and Functional Behavior Analysis (FBA) preferred
  • Understanding and acceptance of the School Mission and Philosophy of Communication which emphasizes acceptance of and respect for language differences and celebrate cultural and ethnic diversity
  • Basic understanding of childhood development and classroom management strategies.
  • Experience with data collection and report generation preferred.
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively with people in various positions and family members within and outside of PSD.
  • ASL proficency required

Responsibilities:


  • Provide behavior support to students who have Positive Behavior Support Plans (PBSP) and/or Functional Behavior Assessments (FBA)
  • Develop visual supports for social emotional learning materials.
  • Support creating monthly reports with data collection of Incident Reports and behavior reports throughout the year.
  • Assist in maintaining a variety of service related records (Incident Reports and pages) and prepare end of the year reports and presentations related to data collection.
  • Assist administrators to ensure that incident reports are completed accurately.
  • Assist in modeling the use of positive behavior support and assist in intervention techniques for staff/teachers/students.
  • Assist staff with supervision of students in and outside the classroom (i.e.; recess and/or field trips, etc.).
  • Assist in supporting the teachers with respective behavior approaches and classroom behavior management systems.
  • Participate in department meetings, individual teacher meetings, and team meetings
  • Attend workshops and inservices as related to job responsibilities (i

e:
Para-educator mandatory requirements and PBS, and Safety Care Training.

  • Provide behavior strategies techniques training (examples. Safety Care or Therapeutic Solutions or Constructing Connected Community C3).
  • Assist students in shaping their behavior through positive verbal strategies.
  • Assist in shaping students' communication skills through the use of visual aids as a way to enhance clear communication when sign language is not effective.
  • Maintain CPR and First Aid training certifications
  • Supervise students with behavior and help deescalate their behavior to a point that they can communicate appropriately and be ready to return to class.
  • Maintain positive cooperative working relationships with students, parents, teachers and staff.
  • Fill out Home Contact Reports after meetings/calls.
  • Responds to pages for behavior support.
  • Assist the Transportation Manager and Assistant Transportation Manager with behavior management training for Bus Drivers and Aides.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers and other staff.
  • Conduct observations
  • Complete other duties as assigned

Physical Requirements and Work Environment:


  • Occasionally lift up to 25 lbs.
