Summer at BCYF is our busiest season, serving thousands of youth in activities ranging from affordable summer programs and free drop-in sites to youth employment and recreational opportunities.

The Snap Shot Program provides a basic knowledge of photography for youth with an interest in the art as well as the opportunity for youth to become familiar with Boston's diverse neighborhoods and institutions.


Program Description:

The Snap Shot Program is a 7-week summer program for youth ages Throughout July and August, participants are engaged in a high-quality, service-learning experience where they have the opportunity to learn about photography.

In addition, participants attend various leadership development workshops throughout the summer.


BCYF seeks a qualified person with photography knowledge and experience to serve as the Snap Shot Photography Instructor for the program.


This person will be expected to:

  • Supervise a team of up to 14 youth Monday
  • Friday from July
  • August 18, 202
  • Provide support to students while teaching basic photography skills
  • Work with teens on building leadership skills in collaboration with the BCYF Program Manager
  • Provide supervision and support while in the classroom and on field trips
  • Submit a weekly schedule of activities to the program manager
  • Work with students on individual Snap Shot portfolios for the end of summer exhibit

Roles and Responsibilities:


  • Teach teens the principles and elements of photography as well as varying styles
  • Teach how to use a digital camera and photography software
  • Create a schedule of activities and outings for the group
  • Provide supervision and support to program participants at all times
  • Work with BCYF Program Manager to plan and implement leadership development opportunities
  • Meet with BCYF Program Manager and related staff on progress of the program
  • Work with BCYF staff to develop and plan the end of summer exhibit

Qualifications:


  • Experience and passion working with teens
  • Experience leading a team of youth with a specific goal in leadership development
  • Experience as a photographer
  • Experience in developing and leading activities for young people
  • Strong written, communication, organizational, and time management skills
  • Proficiency in using a digital camera, photo editing software, and social media
  • Commitment to working effectively with a diverse population
  • Comfortable working in a team environment
  • Boston Resident
  • All accepted applicants are required to complete a CORI/SORI prior to the July 5, 2023 start date.

Compensation:

- $25 - $30 pending experience

  • 25 hrs per week (Monday-Friday, 7 weeks)
