Position Summary

Hospital Refuse Worker performs unskilled manual labor in the collection and removal of refuse in a large county hospital complex.

Hospital Refuse Workers do routine repetitive work as part of a refuse collection work force in collecting and transporting refuse from various hospital locations.


Duties & Responsibilities
Drives Cushman vehicles to various locations to pick-up/unload waste.

Collects biomedical waste, solid waste, recyclables and non-hazardous chemotherapy waste from various locations throughout the hospital and transports it to the waste management building.

Ensures that all carts are clean at all times. Assumes responsibility for the cleanliness of the waste management carts during assigned shift. Assists waste management operators and/or automotive equipment operators at waste management building as required. Loads waste into appropriate dumpsters and/or compactors at the waste management building. Demonstrates full knowledge and understanding of all Biomedical Waste Rules and applies them to the hospital operation. (Chapter 64E-16 of the Florida Administrative Code on Biomedical Waste). Ensures that the waste cart is clean and covered with the proper cover at all times. Demonstrates behaviors of service excellence and CARE values (Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Expertise). Performs all other related job duties as assigned.


Qualifications

Education
High School diploma is strongly preferred.


Experience
Generally requires 0 to 3 years of related experience.


License/Certification
Non-licensed worker.


Life Support Certification Requirements

BLS
ACLS
PALS
NRP

Knowledge/Skill/Abilities

Physical Demands
Job functions requires extended walking or standing. Must be able to climb stairs/ladder, stoop, bend, crawl and perform repetitive motions as needed. Must be able to carry objects weighing 21 to 50 pounds.

Must be able to lift, push or pull objects weighing 51 to 100 pounds with the use of appropriate devices.

Function requires visual acuity to perform job related activities such as:
operating machines or motor vehicles and performing mechanical or skilled trades tasks of a repetitive and non-repetitive nature. Certain jobs in this group may have specific physical abilities requirement.
