- Generates and develops cost estimates:
- Analyzes plans, specifications, proposals, and other documentation to prepare bids/quotes.
- Ensures all estimates meet or exceed company and customer's expectations, as well as regulatory requirements.
- Computes various cost factors.
- Prepares budgets for various disciplines of work.
- Develops beneficial business relationships:
- Develops good working relationships with suppliers, subcontractors, clients, and INDOT personnel.
- Develops a network of contacts within the community.
- Develops good relationships internally.
- Performs day-to-day estimating tasks:
- Sets up jobs in job costing.
- Attends pre-bid and pre-construction meetings.
- Generates purchase orders and subcontractor agreements.
- Prepares change orders, submittals, and assists with other tasks as necessary to support the project team.
- Tracks and reviews cost history and incorporates into operational buy in review meetings.
- Communicates with internal/external customers:
- Answers inquiries via phone, email, or in-person.
- Provides highest levels of customer service.
- Makes presentations to large and small groups.
- Translates technical information into easily understood language.
- Promotes and maintains safe work environment:
- Exhibits safe work behaviors.
- Wears all prescribed PPE, as necessary.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Negotiation and Problem Solving.

- Bachelor's Degree in Construction Technology, Construction Management, related field, or equivalent work experience.
- 2-4 years previous experience in cost estimating; experience in civil estimating is preferred, but not required.
- Experience in CAD, drafting, and technical plan reading.
- This position is on-site, primarily working out of our Indianapolis location (Decatur).
- Regular travel to job sites, customer sites, and corporate offices throughout the state is required on an as needed basis.
- Travel is primarily day trips; however, some overnight travel may be required.
