The City of Saco is seeking Emergency Communications Specialists to assist the Saco Police Department with the handling of emergency and routine communications.

the receipt and processing of citizen complaints via the telephone system, E911 emergency phone system or by way of personal contact at the Police Department; creating and maintaining records of the department which relate to the documentation for calls for service, fire, and medical calls.

Employees within communications must be able to perform their duties without direct supervision and must be able to perform under a wide variety of conditions.

Employees must be able to prioritize all aspects of communication and make rapid decisions concerning the lives and safety of officers, firefighters, medical personnel and citizens.

• Receive complaints and information from the public and other public safety agencies.
• Condense, direct, and process the information and complaints received.
• Assign field units to calls for services.
• Enter and retrieve data on the department?s internal computer system.
• Operate the department?s police and fire radio system.
• Provide information on laws, ordinances, and services available to the public.
• Perform related work as required by direction or policies.
• Operate E911 system properly and efficiently.
• Dispatch appropriate police, fire, and rescue units including additional agencies as directed or necessary.
• Maintain high personal standards regarding ethics, truthfulness and credibility on and off duty so as to be able to offer evidence and testimony, when necessary, at trial, hearings and other related proceedings.
