The mission of the New York City Police Department is to enhance the quality of life in New York City by working in partnership with the community to enforce the law, preserve peace, protect the people, reduce fear, and maintain order.

The NYPD strives to foster a safe and fair city by incorporating Neighborhood Policing into all facets of Department operations and solve the problems that create crime and disorder through an interdependent relationship between the people and its police, and by pioneering strategic innovation.

The Deputy Commissioner, Management and Budget serves as the Chief Fiscal Officer of the New York City Police Department.

As such, The Office of the Deputy Commissioner, Management and Budget (DCMB) and its subunits coordinate and oversee financial planning, capital construction, payment for expenditures, implementation of contracts, and procurement as well as distribution of Department equipment and supplies.

One of these subunits, the Management & Budget Analysis Unit (MBAUI is engaged in the review and analysis of programs and policies impacting upon the Police Department's budgetary requirements. Staff prepare regularly scheduled analytical reports on budgetary issues and trends as well as project studies.

Minimum Qualifications1.

For Assignment Level I (only physical, biological and environmental sciences and public health) A master's degree from an accredited college or university with a specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological or environmental science or in public health.


  • A doctorate degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological, environmental or social science and one year of full-time experience in a responsible supervisory, administrative or research capacity in the appropriate field of specialization; or
  • A master's degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological, environmental or social science and three years of responsible full-time research experience in the appropriate field of specialization; or

Preferred Skills- Excellent analytical skills - Power BI, Cognos, SPSS, and Python - Experience in the development of algorithms- Residency RequirementNew York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment.

However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County.
