    The department has an immediate opening for a Temporary Probation Officer to provide court services, community supervision, and/or case management for adult correctional clients.

    This is a temporary, non-exempt position. Interviews will take place the week of 5/2/2024 for those selected to move forward in the hiring process.


    Pay & Benefits Salary:
    $33.66 to $40.39 per hour. 2024 Anoka County Salary Schedule Grade 34. $33.66 to $47.12 per hour. Advancement/professional development opportunities. Work Location This position will work at Building 13, located at the Rum River Human Services Center th Avenue N., Anoka MN This position is eligible for flexible work arrangements, including some hybrid work. Work hours and location may be flexible and will be arranged with corrections unit supervisor based on department needs and workload. Job Duties and Responsibilities These examples are not all inclusive and are intended to be illustrative of primary responsibilities of an Anoka County Probation Officer. Complete sexual offender Pre
    • Sentence Investigation (PSI) reports for the District Court.
    This includes face-to-face interviews with defendants, collecting relevant case and client background information, obtaining victim impact information and report preparation. Reports must be completed and filed timely following court-approved guidelines. Complete and file Minnesota Sentencing Guidelines worksheets for each assigned PSI. Provide case management and community supervision of adult correctional clients if assigned. Communicate with judges, law enforcement, prosecutors, defense attorneys, mental health professionals, and child protection. Maintain accurate documentation of case activity, including contacts with clients, victims, concerned parties and treatment agencies. Utilize department and offender data systems and computer hardware. Conduct community-based client contacts, if assigned. Respond to emergency situations and calls for assistance in the worksite and intervene with appropriate level of force. Provide leadership, coaching, and/or mentoring to a subordinate group as assigned.


    Qualifications and Requirements:

    Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Needed Requires a bachelor's degree and at least 2 years of job-related experience In lieu of the required education, an equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis Must be 21 years of age or older by date of hire Successfully pass driver's license background check Must have valid driver's license and vehicle available for business use Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Needed Degree in Corrections, Criminal Justice, Criminology, Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, Sociology or related field Strong verbal and written communication skills Previous correctional experience working with sexual offenders and preparing pre-sentence investigation reports.

    Working knowledge of the Minnesota Sentencing Guidelines.

    Physical Demands and Work Conditions Standard office environment, correctional and detention institutions, field offices, courtrooms, offender'/clients' homes, hospitals and schools, and various community settings depending n assignment Work activities may involve contact with and the supervision of juveniles or adults charged with major or minor criminal offenses, and/or individuals who may be hostile, dangerous, threatening, armed, and aggressive and/or under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

    Consequently, some assignments may encounter stressful and physically threatening situations Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus, such as to work on computers.

    Ability to see colors, shades and brightness Hearing abilities required for general and phone communication, signals, and machine sounds Ability to detect, discern, and tolerate a wide range of scents required for safety and performance of essential duties Cognitive abilities required include problem solving, prioritization of tasks, short- and long-term memory, interpreting and understanding written documents, and general mathematical skills Assignments require several hours of varied physical activity in addition to viewing a computer screen, sitting at a desk, or walking/standing Lifting over 100 lbs.
