Job summary:


Reporting to the Executive Deputy Director for the department of Public Safety at Temple University, the Captain of Investigations leads the department's Investigations unit, which includes directing the unit's staff, overseeing criminal investigations; setting the unit's goals and policies; providing technical expertise to departmental leadership; and coordinating with other law enforcement agencies.

The Captain stays abreast of best practices within law enforcement and applies them to their unit.

Required Education & Experience:


Bachelor's degree and at least six years of law enforcement experience, and at least two years of law enforcement command experience.

An equivalent combination of education, appropriate training, and related experience may be considered.


Required Skills & Abilities:


  • Ability to handle sensitive matters in a confidential and professional manner.
  • Must have skills and competencies in public safety and emergency management, including public safety, outreach/engagement, health preparedness, emergency planning, crisis communication, physical plant preparedness, and preparedness training/education.
  • Skilled in critical thinking and problemsolving, as well as being innovative and creative.
  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge and familiarity with law enforcement and security principles, in addition to the laws and regulations governing them.
  • Requires visual acuity that is sufficient to pass practical yearly firearm qualification course.

Preferred:


  • Seven years of investigative experience.
  • Ten years of certified police experience.
  • Seven years of supervisory experience.
*Current MPOETC certification or certification under the Municipal *Police Officer's Training Act (Act 120).

  • Prior experience and proficiency with the Premier One platform.
This position requires a background check.
This position requires Child Abuse Certifications prior to the commencement of service.
