- Assists the director in the day-to-day operation of the department and acts in the absence of the director.
- Provides direct supervision of assigned work group on a daily basis.
- Assists in supervising other workgroups as needed.
- Evaluates employee caseloads and adjusts the workload when necessary.
- Responsible for annual employee evaluations, peer evaluations, etc., for those employees who have direct reporting responsibilities to this individual.
- Responsible for the training of new employees in their work group and assisting with training of all new employees.
- Responsible for education of new employees on computer applications pertinent to their job function.
- Works closely with IS and 3M 360 Encompass support to solve technical issues.
- Prepares statistical reports monthly to be presented to administration and medical staff meetings.
- Schedules and conducts regular meetings with their work group for teaching, reinforcing, and, implementation of new processes and /or policies.
- Assists the management team in development of new policies, procedures, and long range plans and goals for the department.
- Assists the medical directors in identifying adverse patterns and trends for physicians, resolving patient care issues, and facilitating timely and accurate documentation.
- Creates monthly documentation or coding education for physicians and CDI team based on data driven assessment.
- Performs related responsibilities as required or directed.
- Associate of Science in Nursing required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred.
- Valid Tennessee Nursing License required; BLS preferred
- Nationally recognized Clinical Documentation Improvement Certification within 5 years required
- 3-5-year experience in a management role preferred
- Minimum 5 year Documentation Improvement experience required

Job Description Summary:
The manager works under the general direction of the Director of Documentation Improvement. Responsible for the direct supervision of their assigned work group 8 hours a day, 5 days a week with indirect supervision 7 days per week. Must have a minimum of 2-3 years of recent clinical RN acute care experience. The manager is responsible for establishing appropriate staffing levels and work assignments, developing performance criteria for staff, serving as an expert resource on regulations, policies, operational procedures and ensuring that the operations of Documentation Improvement are consistent with the Clinical Documentation Program, as well as the business and clinical goals of the organization. Employee is subject to call back as required by the hospital.
