What You'll Do:


PURPOSE:
Responsible for the day-to-day activities in Sterile Central.

Responsible for decontamination, assembly of kits, operation of Washer/Disinfector, Steam and System 1 (Steris) sterilization, including all monitoring of these sterilization processes.

Maintains adequate inventory for Sterile Central and Surgical Center materials. Perform miscellaneous tasks as needed to assist in the smooth flow of Surgical Center operations.


ACCOUNTABILITIES:
_(include, but are not limited to)_

  • Cleaning, Disinfection and Sterilization Processes
  • Demonstrates competence in all aspects if sterile processing: preparation, packaging, sterilization, sterile storage, and distribution of sterile medical devices.
  • Utilizes knowledge and experience in all aspects of decontamination, including sorting, disassembly/reassembly, manual and mechanical cleaning methods, microbicidal processes, equipment operation, standard/transmission based (enhanced) precautions, and engineering and work practice controls
  • Utilizes the steam sterilizing unit and responsible for all aspects of steam sterilization (including decontamination, inspection, and packaging of items to be sterilized, sterilizing procedures, equipment operation and safety precautions).
  • Determines whether processed instrumentation meets the stringent criterion for sterility and use in Operating/Procedure Rooms prior to distribution.
  • Maintains comprehensive knowledge of sterilization processes and procedures for other methods of sterilization; the Sterrad, the Steris and the Medivator.
  • Accurately maintains comprehensive Quality Assurance Measures related to sterilization and infection control.
  • Orders, receives and puts away supplies and equipment
  • Maintain levels of supplies and equipment in all areas of the Surgical Center
  • Works closely with surgical center personnel to ensure availability of equipment and supplies needed to facilitate the daily schedule.
  • Orders special equipment per surgeon's request.
  • Determines whether each piece of equipment that is processed is in correct working condition, and if not makes arrangements for repair.
  • Meets with sales rep and repair reps as needed.
  • Picks case carts according to physician preference cards.
  • Assist in the Preparation of Wet Labs
  • Assists the business manager in organizing wet labs
  • Follows Universal Precautions during Wet Labs
  • Follows proper procedure for receiving and disposal of wet lab specimens.
  • Performs miscellaneous duties as assigned by management to ensure smooth operation of OR and procedure room areas.

Who You Are:


EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
High School diploma or equivalent


CERTIFICATE / LICENSE:
Completion of a Central Services Technician program preferred, but not required.


EXPERIENCE:

Two or more years of related experience which demonstrates working knowledge of modern operating room techniques, methods and procedures as applied to the use of instrumentation.


KNOWLEDGE:


  • Working knowledge of office equipment and Software
  • Familiarity with HIPAA, insurance regulations, policies, procedures, and other regulatory policies
  • Medical office procedures, policies, practices and medical terminology, telephone protocol and professional etiquette
  • Understanding of electronic medical systems
