Position Function and Duties:


The
Payroll Specialist supports the Payroll Office within the Finance Department in processing of the biweekly payrolls for the Lee County Board of County Commissioners, Court Administration, Lee County Port Authority, and Lee County Clerk of Circuit Courts, herein collectively referred to as the 'Entities'.


Position Duties:


  • Support the Payroll Analysts, Supervisor and Manager in the day to day operations of the Payroll Office within the Finance Department.
  • Be familiar with the Entities' employee related policies and procedures.
  • Possess a good understanding of the software programs utilized in our payroll process.
  • Accurately and timely participate in performing applicable maintenance on employee payroll records for the Entities, as assigned. This involves maintaining voluntary and involuntary deductions, direct deposit, and salary information.
  • Accurately and timely handle employee related certifications, verifications, legitimate wage garnishments, and court ordered directives, as assigned.
  • Assist with payroll related records management functions, as directed.
  • Assist employees with payroll related issues as needed, by phone, electronically, or in person.
  • Participate in annual verification projects, as directed.
  • Be cognizant of and practice proper internal controls.
  • Other duties, responsibilities, and special projects, as assigned

Qualifications:


Education, Experience & Certification(s):


  • Associates Degree with courses in the areas of Accounting or Finance preferred; or two years of directly related experience
  • Two years of office support for multiple reports required
  • Two year experience with financial data entry for multiple entities preferred

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:


  • Ability to work in a fast paced and detail oriented environment with stringent time constraints
  • Good organizational skills and attention to detail required
  • Ability to balance multiple entities schedule and deadlines
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with employees, other agencies, and the public.
  • Use tact in sensitive situations, maintain confidentiality of restricted files, and maintain a courteous attitude at all times
  • Intermediate level of Excel, Word and Outlook required
  • Accurate data entry and 10 Key skills required
  • Proficiency in mathematics and business writing
  • Strong work ethic and professional demeanor required
  • Ability to cross train others within areas of knowledge
  • Ability to work effectively in a group or independently
  • Work is performed under mínimal supervision; requires initiative and independent judgement.
  • Ability to work and make decisions under pressure and meet all deadlines, goals, and objectives as set forth.
  • Demonstrate proficiency with operations and general care of the PC, printers and other required office equipment
  • Ability to work extended hours

  • Office: Majority of the time is spent sitting at the computer, remainder of the time is spent assisting in other functions
  • Work from Home (if applicable): Majority of the time is spent sitting at the computer.
