    Description:
    The Department of Applied Ecology performs teaching, research, and extension in the biological and ecological sciences.

    The Southeast Climate Adaptation Science Center (SE CASC) focuses on climate and other global change sciences to help fish, wildlife, ecosystems, and people adapt to a changing climate.

    SE CASC is a regional center that is part of a national network of nine CASCs embedded in all regions of the U.S.

    and led by a National CASC.

    This position is to provide program management, coordination, and communications support for the SE CASC, a university-federal partnership hosted at NC State.

    The position supports the SE CASC consortium director and assistant director, five federal staff, over 170 faculty affiliates, ten Consortium Institutions, and Global Change Fellows (grad fellowships).

    Interacts regularly via conference calls, workshops, and trainings with other Program Managers.

    Responsibilities :
    Supports meeting coordination of SE CASC staff and Consortium PIs, including identifying agenda topics with research teams and facilitating follow-up;
    Contributes expertise related to SE CASC program elements in team meetings of NCSU and USGS staff;
    Engages with National CASC and regional CASCs in areas relevant to this position;
    Supports Consortium Director and Assistant Director with management of university budgets relevant to SE CASC, such as tracking spending and recommending/developing budget or extension requests as needed;
    Represents the SE CASC at relevant regional and national meetings, as appropriate for the position;
    Supports Consortium Director and Assistant Director in required technical reporting and management of projects funded by SE CASC, including gathering and synthesizing information for annual technical reports to USGS, responding to data calls from National CASC, working with USGS counterparts to track project progress, joining project meetings;
    Collaborates with SE CASC staff and PIs at eleven consortium institutions across the Southeast to facilitate the development of project proposals, including reviewing budgets and statements of work, coordinating with sponsored programs staff to develop proposal packages and sub-award documents;
    Contributes to maintenance of website updates and other public-facing summaries of SE CASC science, such as ensuring that project pages represent the current status of projects and summarizing findings of SE CASC projects and activities for web and print publications and presentations;
    Contributes to the organization and administration of SE CASC graduate student research fellows, such as coordinating with graduate program staff at NCSU and Consortium institutions on student stipend and assistantship support, and facilitating travel and other support requests;
    Engages in grant proposal writing, such as summarizing relevant SE CASC and other research, identifying potential research partners, and developing budgets;
    Provides support in administrative duties and science planning, including but not limited to meeting coordination of SE CASC staff and Consortium PIs such as working with science teams to identify times, locations, and topics in conjunction with annual funding cycles and summarizing science project information from project teams for annual reporting and funding calls;
    Facilitates interdisciplinary efforts in climate change and adaptation within the NCSU community and with the NCSU Climate Solutions Collaborative, including representing SE CASC at cross-program meetings, identifying and implementing opportunities for collaboration on cross-campus events and initiatives;

    Implementation and planning of science symposia and other convenings of research and management partners across the Southeast, including contributing to meetings of steering and planning committees, developing and monitoring event budgets and planning timelines, and facilitating supported travel of partners.


    Qualifications :
    Master's degree in a scientific field such as ecology, conservation, zoology, biology, climate science, science education, or related field, or equivalent professional training and experience
    Proficiency in software such as MS Office, WordPress content management software, team management software, e.g. Trello, and online meeting software, e.g. Zoom and Teams
    Ability to prioritize tasks and creatively solve problems
    Effective interpersonal skills and professional communication style
    A valid NC Driver's License

    Preferred:
    Familiarity with university business systems.
    Strengths in organizational abilities and attention to detail.
