JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

We are looking for a skilled Senior Embedded Systems Engineer to join our Communications, Information, and Navigation Office (CINO) at the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL).

ARL's mission is to explore and develop creative solutions for complex scientific, engineering, and technology challenges to support the Navy, the Department of Defense (DoD), and the Intel Community (IC).

You Will:
- Define, code, and debug image processing routines with a focus on motion recognition, optical flow techniques, and image registration.
- Analyze and assess electronic hardware involving discrete (analog/digital), mixed-signal circuits, and embedded processors.
- Provide innovative problem-solving approaches to boost organizational capabilities; leverage peer network to enhance technical skills and discover new research prospects.

- Generate opportunities to improve technical methodology or content through expanding existing efforts or initiating new ones; may branch out technology into fresh application areas; contribute to or lead intellectual development activities.

This role can be filled at various levels, depending on your educational background and experience.

Typical qualifications include a Bachelor's Degree; a Master's Degree in an Engineering or science-related discipline is preferred, along with a minimum of 14 years of relevant experience.

Advanced positions require additional experience and/or education.

Additional responsibilities for higher-level positions include:
- Proficiency in model-based system design, requirements formulation, and development of system-level design documentation.
- Acting as a liaison between individuals and groups on projects, with autonomy in technical matters related to their field.
- Coordinating research and development endeavors across different disciplines, defining scope, selecting problems for investigation, and creating innovative concepts and methodologies.

Required skills/experience areas include:

- Designing and developing real-time embedded systems with advanced data fusion algorithms integrating sensors like cameras, imaging sensors, inertial measurement units, radio ranging, and LIDAR.

- Embedded system design encompassing electronic circuitry, FPGA logic, and real-time processor programming.

- Proficiency in Electrical design, real-time systems, Image Science, and Remote Sensing.

- Programming skills in one or more of the following languages: Python, C/C++, and/or Matlab.

- Understanding of estimation theory and applications, including Machine Learning techniques.

- Application of Vision-Aided-Navigation algorithms and methods.

- Leading, guiding, and mentoring collaborative teams.

- Acting as a Technical Lead or Principal Investigator on DoD research programs.

Preferred skills/experience areas include:
- Holding an active government security clearance.

- Proficiency in Matlab/Simulink with auto-coding.

- Proficiency in Guidance Navigation and Control and associated applications.

- Graduate-level comprehension of Control Theory and its applications.

- Relevant experience in Hardware-in-the-Loop testing.

- Ability to effectively communicate thoughts and ideas to facilitate understanding.

- Previous successful experiences collaborating with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds or in multidisciplinary, team-based environments.

Your work setup will involve a hybrid model with a combination of remote work and on-site presence. The physical work location for this role will be in Warminster, PA.

Occasional travel to remote sites in support of testing with a small team of researchers, engineers, and technologists will be required.

$123, $219,600.00
