Summary
A BMET I is an entry-level or junior biomedical equipment technician; works under close supervision while performing scheduled maintenance, safety testing, repairs, and calibrations on a limited scope of patient care equipment.
The BMET I position is where the foundation of important skills is learned and built upon for further professional growth.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Assemble, maintain, and repair basic electronic devices according to their specifications
- Helps to support the facility's scheduled maintenance program
- Accurately documents all activities in the preferred computerized medical maintenance system, follows up with customer at each delay, repair milestone, or completion
- Diagnoses and solves system and equipment malfunctions by making repairs or replacements in accordance with the system's technical specifications or requirements
- Research and orders parts to perform repairs and maintenance
- Provides technical inservice or instruction to Facility staff in proper operation of patient care equipment
- Demonstrates cost containment and financial acumen
- Maintains a good personal relationship with fellow coworkers, hospital staff, and vendors
- Maintains a safe workspace and test equipment
- Complies with all facility specific policies and procedures
- May be asked to participate in call rotation
- Works closely with management to develop and implement a plan for professional growth
- Performs other duties as assigned**
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities/Competencies
Education/Special Training
- H.S. Diploma or equivalent required
- College Degree, Technical Certification, or other higher level of education pertaining to this job description preferred
- CBET or similar preferred (VARIES)
Required Work Hours
- Forty hours per week during daytime and evening hours, unless otherwise specified. Scheduled work hours may change.
- Overtime may be required or permitted with prior approval.
- BMET I will be included on the On-Call rotation.

- FLSA : Exempt or Non-Exempt
Safety Requirements
- Abide and follow our Injury & Illness Prevention Program and Covid19 Prevention Program.
- Maintain a safe working environment for self and others if they come in contact within the biomed area in accordance with the facility's policies.
- Must follow OSHA guidelines in regard to blood borne pathogens, airborne pathogens, radiation, sharp instruments and/or tools, hazardous liquids, and operating devices.
- Ontime completion of safety trainings assignments (HealthStream).
Physical Requirements
- The
BMET I must be able to speak, hear, see, read, write, type, dial, reach, bend, climb, crawl, crouch, kneel, squat, and twist. - Must have near vision, far vision, depth perception, and be able to distinguish colors.
- Must have sensory ability to distinguish hot, cold, range of temperatures, surfaces, fine motor skills, manual dexterity, and detect/distinguish odors.
- Must be able to carry or lift up to 50 pounds routinely.
Travel Requirements
- This position is or is not required to travel.
