Harbor Interfaith Services (HIS) is a non-profit organization in which our funding is derived from the local, state and federal governments, as well as from individuals, foundations, faith communities, tuition, fees, fundraisers etc. We serve the homeless and working poor in the South Bay area of Los Angeles (SPA) 8.

Harbor Interfaith Services is looking to add a
full-time Director of Housing to our team.

The Director of Housing, in coordination with the Facilities Manager, is responsible for the oversight of Harbor Interfaith Services housing programs at the Accelerated Learning & Living Transitional Housing facility (24 units) and the Family Shelter (20 units).

This position will supervise three case managers and report to the Executive Director.

The work hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30am to 5:30pm while some flexibility may be needed based on business need.


Key responsibilities:


  • Supervising three case managers on the housing staff.
  • Ensuring the intake process is the most efficient model for screening applicants, minimizing turnover rate and ensuring collaboration with the Coordinated Entry System for families, individuals, and youth.
  • Completing government reporting forms in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Ensuring achievement of program performance measures and compliance with public/private funding contracts.
  • Maintaining uptodate copies of state and county regulations for CalWORKs, CalFresh, Medi-Cal and GAIN programs.
  • Ensuring upkeep and safety of housing facilities and reporting concerns immediately to the Facilities Manager.
  • Communicating with property managers of HIS transitional housing to track rent, unit conditions, and expenses.
  • Administering program budgets.
  • Managing the client tracking system and providing systematic reports.
  • Attending staff meetings, case conferences, trainings, and completing other duties as assigned.

We would like to speak to you if:

  • You have 3 years' experience in staff supervision and in administration of a housing program.
  • You have a minimum of 5 years' experience in working with at risk populations, including those who have experienced significant trauma, domestic violence, displacement/homelessness, etc.
  • You have a demonstrated ability to design, implement, and evaluate housing programs.
  • You have excellent communication skills, verbal and written.
  • You have strong interpersonal, negotiation, conflict resolution, and leadership skills.
  • You have a working knowledge of the San Pedro/Harbor Area educational, employment, and counseling resources.
  • You have a management style characterized by initiative, flexibility, creativity, and strong organizational skills.
  • You have knowledge of property owner and tenant's rights.
  • You have experienced with capital development projects.
