Job Summary:
Responsible for the delivery of safe, effective, and quality patient-family centered care in the OR and other areas of perioperative services for all patient populations.
Job Summary:
Provides functional direction to members of the perioperative team to achieve optimal patient outcomes while optimizing available resources including surgical case management and perioperative patient care coordination.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Promotes the mission, vision, and values of the organization.
- Operationally and fiscally manages the perioperative services department during tour of duty.
- Acts as a clinical resource for perioperative personnel using current literature and guidelines, organizational policies and procedures, and regulatory and accreditation standards.
- Assists perioperative personnel in the evaluation of current practice through quality and performance improvement activities.
- Demonstrates effective communication and collaboration skills with members of the perioperative team and other stakeholders.
- Coordinates, facilitates, and manages change within the surgical department.
- Serves as a member of a multidisciplinary team in planning perioperative patient care.
- Uses effective conflict resolution techniques.
- Collects and analyzes data that applies to perioperative services to facilitate collaboration and negotiation with stakeholders.
- Participates in interviews for perioperative personnel selection.
- Assists in evaluating perioperative personnel performance.
- Serves as a role model of professional behavior.
- Verifies that the appropriate personnel, equipment, and supplies are available.
- Provides guidance, support, and constructive feedback to surgical team.
- Pursues professional growth and participates in a professional organization.
- Acts as a patient advocate and maintains privacy and confidentiality of all appropriate information
Education/Licensure/Certification — Mandatory:
- Bachelor's degree in nursing
- Graduate from an accredited school of nursing
- Current registered nurse licensure in state of employment
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
Required:
- Two to three years varied surgical services experience
- Basic computer skills (eg, Microsoft Word)
Preferred:
- Certified Nurse, Operating Room (CNOR) certification
- Advanced computer skills (eg, Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel)
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:
- Physically demanding, highstress environment
- Occasional exposure to blood and body fluids, communicable diseases, chemicals, radiation, and repetitive motions
- Full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients
- Manual and finger dexterity
- Hand and eye coordination
- Sitting, standing, and walking for extensive periods of time
- Lifting and carrying items weighing up to 50 pounds
- Corrected vision and hearing to within normal range
- Frequently sitting at desk working on computer
- Working irregular hours including call hours
