Fork Union Military Academy's Mission is to educate, develop, and inspire young men in a college preparatory, Christian, military-structured environment.

Cadets build character and learn leadership, independence, responsibility, and discipline in a setting that encourages mental, physical, and spiritual growth.


Description


Company TAC Instructors shall be willing to adhere to, enforce, encourage, and instruct all Cadets per the Academy's mission and core values.

TAC Instructors are the heart of our Leadership program and foster personal development with daily interaction and the ability to Teach, Advise, and Coach (TAC) our Cadets.

Ensuring Cadet development within a safe and secure environment by instructing, counseling, evaluating, and reporting Cadet performance; ensuring operational and procedural uniformity within the barracks and around campus.

General responsibilities are to instruct with an emphasis on Leadership while also teaching, advising, coaching, mentoring, and inspecting, Cadets within their company.

TACs, as well as other staff and faculty members, serve "in loco parentis" (in place of the parent) for boarding and day students in seventh through twelfth grades, including the post-graduate program.


Essential Job Functions

Supervisory Responsibilities:


  • Supervise assigned company of cadets as they progress through their day
  • Work in conjunction with academic faculty as deemed necessary to support cadet educational goals
  • Enforce the standards for personal wellness, and a hygienic environment in the living quarters
  • Teach company cadets the proper standards and skills to obtain success during inspections of living quarters
  • Assist and coach company cadets with concerns to hygiene, wellness, and personal living space as issues arise
  • Teach, Advise, and Coach (TAC) company cadets daily in academic, spiritual, athletic, and personal goals
  • Advise Day TAC in steps to best support cadet growth and success
  • Maintain general oversite and safety of assigned company cadets of the Academy
  • Analyze, evaluate, develop, and report cadet progress via verbal and written reports
  • Communicate with cadet parents as needed
  • Delegate parental contact to Day TAC as deemed appropriate based on parental best hours of availability
  • Verify cadet accountability daily as deemed necessary or assigned by the Commandant
  • Assist, oversee, or approve assigned company cadet departures during leave or major events that deem the exit of a cadet

Duties/Responsibilities:


  • Reinforce the Academy mission and vision when setting appropriate cadet goals or providing counsel to cadets
  • Teach military structure to company cadets per the strategic plan of the Commandant
  • Military organization and structure
  • Drill and Ceremony
  • Reinforce the departmental strategic plan as deemed appropriate by the Commandant or the needs of the Academy
  • Conduct regular meetings with Company Cadet Leadership to discuss student concerns, provide guidance, and solicit feedback on the cadet experience
  • Encourage a positive environment for clear communication and consistent expectations and procedures
  • Support and connect with cadets within the company; likewise support all enrolled cadets in a consistent manner as deemed appropriate by the needs of the Academy
  • Assist other Company TACs in daily supervision and observation requirements as deemed appropriate by the needs of the Academy
  • Assess cadet and company performance based on standards established in departmental strategic planning sessions as deemed appropriate by the Commandant or needs of the Academy.
  • Encourage personal growth that includes mind, body, and spirit.
  • Assist with setting achievable goals to create a positive experience achieving growth in these areas
  • Communicate proper support strategies to Day and Night TACs to encourage a positive outcome of set goals
  • Document and review any documentation, related to cadet issues.
  • Discipline, incident reports, investigations, pass along briefings, roommate disputes, behavior or social trends, and positive achievements.
  • Review submissions of documentation from the Day or Night TACs regarding cadet issues
  • Assist in formulating a plan of response as deemed necessary
  • Submit documentation on guidance provided to Day or Night TACs as well as cadets
  • Document all communications with parents
  • As otherwise deemed necessary per the needs of the Academy
  • Be a positive role model
  • Actively respond and participate appropriately to crisis or emergent situations
  • Participate as an active member of the Residential Life Team
  • Perform any other assignments that fall within the reasonable scope of duties for this position per the needs of the Academy
