Under general direction of the Department Manager, functions as an Air Monitoring Technician within the Industrial Hygiene Department by providing project and technical management; proposal, work plan and report writing; quality assurance and quality control functions; field work, including interior and exterior projects in all weather conditions; and, travel as required to meet client and project needs.


Requirements:


PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform field air monitoring in support of Clients' remediation projects.
  • Serve as the technical instrumentation lead for Ambient Air Monitoring Programs (AAMPs), including the setup, operation, maintenance, and/or repair of advanced sensitive electronic ambient air pollution analyzers and supporting instrumentation.
  • Maintain the instrument data, including extensive quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) activities to assure the collection of valid, legally defensible air quality data in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Quality Assurance Project Plans (QAPPs).
  • Utilize time-management skills to make decisions regarding scheduling and prioritization of such activities.
  • May require working evenings and/or weekends as scheduling demands change.
  • Any other work-related duties assigned by your supervisor.
  • Assist in the performance of on-site inspections for environmental and industrial hygiene hazards in commercial and public buildings. Activities will include the preparation of detailed inspection reports, in accordance with EDI Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Provide technical assistance and support for EDI projects, including project design support, site work plan support, air sampling expertise and general industrial hygiene department support.
  • Prepared detailed written proposal for services as directed or requested.
  • Review project reports as directed or requested for compliance with the EDI quality assurance/quality control SOP.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned that are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

The requirements listed below are a representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability to successfully perform the responsibilities listed above.

Position requires the employee maintain a working knowledge of the applicable federal, state and local regulations applicable to ambient air monitoring; industrial hygiene, asbestos, and lead-based paint activities, as they pertain to industrial hygiene, asbestos and lead-based paint activities.

Employee is encouraged to obtain and maintain asbestos, lead and other industrial hygiene registration, certification, and licensing in Illinois.

In addition, at the request of the Department Manager, obtain and maintain same in other States as required to meet regulatory, project and client needs.

A High School Diploma with a minimum of one year of experience is preferred but not required.

Certification in industrial hygiene services such as asbestos, lead, industrial hygiene is recommended to maintain the position and grow with the company.

Licensure and professional certification in industrial hygiene services is recommended. Professional certification in other states (to meet regulatory, project, and client needs) is preferred. A valid driver's license and vehicle insurance are required. The work associated with this position requires the willingness to work a flexible schedule as project needs dictate.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit and talk or hear.

The employee is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; use and wear personal protective equipment as required for the specific task; use a ladder; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
