REAL Journey Academies (RJA) is a non-profit charter school management organization designed to significantly increase college entrance and graduation rates for underserved students in the Inland Empire. We aim to impact and revitalize communities through the development of education and other supportive partnerships.

Job Purpose:


RJA is seeking a highly innovative Assistant Principal (AP) to lead a talented and mission driven staff of entrepreneurial thinkers and who are committed to shepherding the school to the next level of academic excellence. This individual will assist and works closely with the Principal to lead and implement the instructional vision to achieve outstanding academic results. The AP should possess a deep knowledge of teaching and instruction as well as demonstrated success in engaging and inspiring a school community to achieve high levels of student success. The AP acts an on-site co-administrator, who under the general direction of the Principal, works in all aspects of the educational program and to build rewarding work environments that retain exceptionally talented educators. The AP must be able to assist the Principal in translating the needs of school students into a well-organized and effective school.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


Entrepreneurial Leadership
-
Assist the principal in effectively communicating the vision of entrepreneurship to multiple stakeholders
-
Assist the principal in driving instructional excellence by leading and managing Professional Learning for staff around entrepreneurship, technology, and project-based learning
-
Assist the principal in promoting an entrepreneurial mindset of learning from failure and exemplify innovative, outside of the box thinking
-
Assist the principal in establishing a relationship with a Community Liaison and an Advisory Committee comprised of local entrepreneurs and higher education leaders
-
Assist the principal in fostering an environment of continuous improvement through teacher evaluations in content curriculum and practices united with entrepreneurship skills

Innovation & Culture

Assist the principal with designing interdisciplinary curriculum with a focus on entrepreneurship and technology
-
Assist the principal with bringing to life student interdisciplinary experiences such as internships, events, higher education opportunities, real-world entrepreneurship, etc.

Assist the principal in creating a culture of high expectations with a focus in collaborative interdisciplinary curricular design and teaching
-
Assist the principal in building a strong school-wide culture amongst students, staff and families that promote college and career readiness for every student

Share successful practices beyond the site

Desired Skills and Traits:

Passion for working with traditionally undeserved communities in high performance settings

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written

Entrepreneurial spirit with an interest in innovative practices

Proven ability to build and cultivate relationships with adult stakeholders

Ability to influence an atmosphere of professionalism amongst all personnel

Lead the program in compliance with policies and regulations, maintains high standards of honesty and integrity and present oneself with poise and stability

Additionally, experience in the following areas is helpful:


  • CTE experience or expertise
-
A background in technology, entrepreneurship, or innovative classroom teaching
-
Experience with the design of innovative educational systems
-
Experience with project-based learning: a dynamic classroom approach in which students actively explore real-world problems and challenges and acquire a deeper knowledge
-
Knowledge and practice of the Lean Startup, Design Thinking, and Business Model Canvas models

Minimum Requirements:

-
Master's Degree in Education or related field from an accredited college or university
-
Valid California Administrative credential preferred
-
One or more successful years of school leadership experience

Physical demands
-
Ability to exert up to 10 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects
-
Occasional or frequent standing, walking, sitting, bending, stooping and reaching for extended periods of time

Occasional computer work including but not limited to typing
