    Position Summary

    Under minimal supervision, The Environment/Safety Specialist is responsible for the development, implementation and administration of SM Energy's environmental, health, and safety management systems.

    This position works closely with engineering and operations personnel to ensure compliance with State, Federal and local regulations and internal policies, procedures and practices in our operated assets.

    This position is responsible for preparation of required permits and reports in compliance with Federal, State and local environmental, health and safety laws and regulations.

    May
    mentor less experienced EHS Specialist on fundamentals.
    Essential Roles & Responsibilities

    Develop, implement and administer environmental, health and safety management systems and related policies, procedures and practices to assure compliance with applicable Federal, State and Local regulations and with internal expectations and goals.

    Develop, implement and administer contractor safety management program and review contractor's EHS performance to ensure work is performed in line with our company's EHS expectations.

    Directly support engineering and operations personnel to ensure compliance with State, Federal and local regulations and internal policies, procedures and practices in our operated assets

    Conduct and review safety observations, hazard assessments, field inspections, drills and safety reviews to ensure compliance with internal and external standards and to identify new hazards Perform risk assessments and make recommendations for regulatory compliance and risk mitigation.

    Lead or participate in incident investigations to determine contributing and root causes and recommend and implement corrective actions with follow-up to verify effectiveness

    Obtain, interpret and communicate environmental, health and safety regulations and stay appraised of new laws and regulations and their impact on our oil and gas operations.

    Oversee tracking of environmental, health and safety data Analyze data to promote continuous improvement in EHS programs Prepare and review internal and regulatory EHS reports as necessary
    Prepare and submit required Federal, State and local environmental, health and safety permits, filings, documents and surveys.

    Lead in the development and review of training materials and lead training to ensure compliance with applicable Federal, State and Local regulations and with internal policies, procedures and practices.

    Attend industry trade group meetings and participate in industry regulatory development efforts

    Computer/Software Applications
    Competent in skill and familiarity with Microsoft Office. Competent in the knowledge of company and industry specific software and related applications including IMS, ISNetworld, Wellview and
    Spotfire.

    Typical Education
    HS diploma or GED is required
    BS degree in Environment, Health, and Safety field, chemistry, engineering or related science is preferred.
    Minimum of 10 years experience in oil and gas operations may be substituted for college degree Professional Safety and/or Environmental Certification is preferred Examples include BCSP
    certifications such as the OHST, CHST, ASP, or CSP designations
    Typical Experience
    Minimum of 6 years of oil and gas experience including 3 years of

    environmental/safety
