Reporting to the Director of Facilities & Construction

Summary


The Facilities Technician is responsible for the daily operation, maintenance, preventative maintenance and repairs to The Winsor School including but not limited to carpentry, plumbing, electrical, HVAC and all other building systems.

The Facilities Technician, therefore, has working knowledge of all building carpentry, plumbing, fire protection, mechanical, electrical, HVAC, life safety and security systems to ensure proper operations and to be able to act upon any conditions that are out of the ordinary.

Specific technical skills in carpentry, plumbing, fire protection, heating, ventilation and air conditioning are utilized. A working knowledge of other craft related areas are also necessary.


Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Performs preventative maintenance, repair and troubleshooting on mechanical systems equipment
  • Inspection of buildings, equipment and grounds for unsafe or malfunctioning conditions.
  • Performs Operations & Maintenance (O&M) on a broad range of equipment utilizing results oriented strategies to ensure continuing operation.
  • Perform or assist in the installation and modification of building equipment systems
  • Perform all assigned work so as to ensure the safety of the building's faculty, students and the continuous operation of the site
  • Prioritize service calls and followup upon completion
  • Complete work requests from School Dude system
  • Troubleshoot, evaluate and recommend equipment/service upgrades
  • Coordinate maintenance efforts with outside contractors and technicians when work cannot be performed inhouse. Coordinate contractor and management approvals for work orders that require the use of an outside contractor.
  • Orders parts and supplies as required, and maintain stock and inventory control
  • Prepare and maintain maintenance logs and records
  • Respond quickly and efficiently to emergency situations
  • Respond to staff complaints in the areas of safety, plumbing, mechanical, electrical and environmental needs through the work order systems.
  • Ensure the cleanliness and appearance of all work areas.
  • Participate in traffic control activities during drop off and pick up periods as well as during events to ensure the safety of students, faculty and school guests
  • Participate in the setup, break down and management of school events.
  • Perform various landscaping duties including snow removal to provide safe passage for all staff
  • Participate in a wide range of Facilities tasks as undertaken by the department
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Facilities & Construction

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • High School degree required, Bachelor's degree or Facilities Certification preferred
  • 35 years of previous experience in Facilities operations
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to use all of the common hand and power tools and communicate in the English language
  • Must be available for emergency callins and to work offhours for snow removal. Must be able to work flexible hours based upon weather and school event schedule, including, morning, afternoon, evening, weekend, and holiday shifts.
  • Massachusetts' state driver's license
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as specifications, operation manuals
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions
  • The ability to work effectively with a diverse group
  • Knowledge of basic computer skills including the ability to order supplies and equipment as needed to complete work and assist others in the completion of their work
  • Must pass background checks to include Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) SORI screening and State mandated fingerprint screening.
  • Certifications in CPR, AED, First Aid and Blood Borne Pathogens a plus

Pay:
$ $32.00 per hour
