- Arizona teacher certificate or Special Education certificate (Master degree beneficial)
- Prefer training in Applied Behavior Analysis
- Minimum three years successful classroom teaching experience in general education
- Knowledge of Arizona state standards and skills
- Experience and knowledge in the principles of applied behavior analysis including the development of functional behavior assessments and positive behavior intervention plans
- Proficient in providing appropriate evidence-based academic, social and behavioral interventions
- Skills in coaching, facilitating, and implementing systems change
- Ability to develop and deliver professional development for teachers and instructional assistants
- Ability to effectively communicate (verbal and written) with parents and district personnel at all levels
- Ability to develop and maintain cooperative and effective professional relationships with teachers, administrators, parents, students
- Observe students who are having problem behavior or are at risk of problem behavior in their educational environment
- Collect Antecedent, Behavior, Consequence (ABC) data to hypothesize function of behavior
- Build relationship and trust with students
- Work directly with individual and/or small groups of students in and out of class to decrease problem behavior or risk of problem behavior
- Create and implement Positive Behavior Intervention Plan (PBIP) with student (modeling implementation of PBIP for other school-based staff)
- Collect and analyze PBIP data and review with student, staff and parents
- Consult with teachers and instructional assistants on comprehensive campuses to develop targeted interventions for students when the school teams need to explore alternative strategies
- Assist teachers and instructional assistants in identifying and addressing student academic, social and behavioral needs
- Describe and model for teachers and instructional assistants evidence-based teaching strategies, techniques, and adaptations to meet the academic and behavioral needs of students
- Knowledge and experience using Prevent Teach Reinforce (PTR) to complete functional behavioral assessments and positive behavior intervention plans, including data collection, interviews, and observations
- Provide follow up support to school based staff on the training, implementation, and evaluation of positive behavior intervention plans
- Communicate with the appropriate Director of Student Support Systems on the status of students receiving supports
- Exhibit professional attitude, appearance, and demeanor
- Perform other related duties, as assigned, to ensure the effective and efficient functioning of the work unit

OVERVIEW:
The Behavior Specialist provides consultation to school-based education teams for behavioral, environmental, and instructional support to develop strategies and interventions to maximize student achievement in the least restrictive environment.

Base Salary:
$54,035.00
Performance Pay:
Available annually
New hire experience:
$500 for each full-time year of certified teaching or verified like experience
New hire education:
$65/hour of graduate level credits:
BA +45 hours max,
MA +60 hours max $1000 for advanced degrees
Class/Calendar:
Certified Exempt, 187 workdays
