    Summary

    The primary purpose of the work in this position is to participate in mechanical engineering evaluation, design, master planning and provide mechanical engineering advice, guidance, and direction to the Head of Facilities Engineering on all relevant matters including repair program planning, alterations, upgrades, and renovations of all aspects of the Gallery mechanical systems and equipment, facilities condition assessments, and maintenance service and repair contracts.

    Duties

    The incumbent will:

  • Participates in the overall leadership and direction of the Administrator's Facilities Management (AFM) division, with primary focus on mechanical engineering support to the Engineering and Operations and Departments.
  • Provides professional mechanical engineering expertise and recommendations to the Head of Facilities Engineering as it pertains to facility condition assessments on a recurring basis to document short-term and long-term planning facilities engineering program needs.
  • Assists the Head of Facilities Engineering in providing oversight of the Gallery's facilities maintenance management programs from a mechanical engineering perspective; this includes but is not limited to short-term and long-term planning preventive maintenance, reliability centered maintenance, work control, and utilities.
  • Provides responsive technical consultant advice regarding solutions of exigent problems encountered by AFM department heads and staff or customers as it relates to the specific features of mechanical engineering.
  • Manages, coordinates, and develops engineering designs, plans, and specifications for the repair, replacement, renovation and maintenance of the Gallery's chilled water distribution system, air handling unit systems (supply/ventilation/exhaust air), steam systems, and plumbing (domestic, irrigation, stormwater) systems.
  • Provides mechanical engineering guidance and direction to the Operations Department Manager on all relevant matters, providing technical mechanical engineering expertise and guidance on all matters pertaining to physical plant engineering and sustainability efforts.
  • Works closely with members of the Facilities Engineering Department to provide advice and guidance on matters regarding the optimization of mechanical equipment and operations; provides technical mechanical engineering assistance during project design and development to ensure all relevant technical aspects are thoroughly addressed; and provides the necessary input to ensure areas of overlapping responsibilities between technical disciplines receive proper engineering design consideration and all project objectives and schedules are attained.
  • Performs engineering reviews of drawings and specifications for construction projects administered by the Office of Architecture and Engineering (AAE).
  • Serves as an expert in the design and installation of complex mechanical systems and provides technical guidance to other staff member in the AFM-Facilities Engineering Department and AFM- Operations Department regarding new arising technologies and developed applications for the repair and maintenance of critical mechanical-electrical-plumbing systems and equipment necessary for the display and storage of the Gallery's invaluable collection of art.
  • As Contracting Officer's Representative (COR), provides facilities management oversight during the construction phase of various engineering projects; consults with designated construction contractor personnel to resolve unforeseen issues and latent conditions which may adversely impact the successful completion of the work.
