Mission Statement
JDG's mission is to enable students to achieve academic, career, personal, and social success.

JDG Teacher position available for
immediate hire at Cape Henlopen High School.

Our teachers identify, recruit, instruct, and provide follow-up for students who are at risk of disconnection from middle school and dropping out of high school.

JDG Teachers must be willing to complete all requirements to obtain State of Delaware School-to-Work Transition teaching certification.

This is a full-time position working 12 months per year:

teaching during the school year and participating in training sessions, committee meetings, and student follow-up activities during shortened work weeks in the summer.

This is not a State of Delaware school district position.

Major Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, and teach the high school curriculum to students
  • Prepare and conduct an annual activities plan
  • Recruit students via various methods including referrals from school personnel, parents, and Advisory Committee
  • Provide students with guidance, counseling, and support within appropriate limits
  • Assist students with making a successful transition to high school
  • Develop and maintain a pool of effective community support resources
  • Create training opportunities through handson activities, audiovisuals, guest speakers, and workshops
  • Assist with civic and social opportunities
  • Maintain current, accurate student data records

Requirements:


Qualifications

Required

  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree
  • Ability to organize and manage complex duties
  • Ability to prepare & maintain accurate records
  • Acceptable results from a criminal background check
  • Acceptable results from a tuberculosis (TB) test
  • Acceptable results from JDG's drug screening
  • Acceptable results from Delaware's Child Protection Registry

Preferred

  • Previous experience working with atrisk youth
  • Previous classroom / education / teaching experience
  • Knowledge of child development issues
  • Degree major in education, social service, or counseling
